Gottleb whining about Smart being...

Listening to Dougie just now on the radio and I had to laugh AT him again. He said he thought it was much more likely that OSU would go 5-0 when Smart comes back. Does he know they play Kansas in that span, LOL?

They might need to go 5-0 to make the tournament at that point.

Your first mistake was in spending your time listening to Gottlip. I may be able to find a second if I looked hard enough. ;)

Someone will take a chance on him, but he is well outside the top 5 now.

To be honest this play in question raises my opinion of his nba prospects. The acceleration he shows pursing the TT player is impressive. Reminds me of Harden at ASU. The one thing he could do was blow by people off the dribble & that totally translated to the nba even though he was raw everywhere else. Smart looks the same.

Harden shot over 50% from the field and scored 19 a game his college career. Also shot near 40% from 3 in college.

Smart is at just above 40% from the field and around 16 a game for his career.

Smart has a slight advantage in assist and rebound numbers, and has more steals.

Harden was producing far more in college than Smart has overall. Maybe Smart ends up being that player in the NBA somehow, but he's not shown it in college.

I don't see smart being able to get to the rim in the nba like harden can

Not the scorer that Harden is. Smart is a better defender though. Tough couple of weeks for him. However OSU is winning out. It's gonna be magical. Like really awesome 30 for 30 type stuff. You guys just wait and see.

I think the Sheepherders will go 2-6, but at best 3-5 in the last 8. Very evident Smart can't handle his emotions and they will be running high when he comes back. NCAA bubble even at 3-5.

The incident at Tech does nothing to his draft stock, it's been more his play the last few weeks. Smart is a physical specimen and crazy athletic (he doesn't show it all the time). I still think he will play in the NBA for a long time, just never be a star. He will still go in the lottery.

Going 3-5 in their last eight will give them a 7-11 conference record and 3-9 for their last 12 games with that record a conference tourney championship is their only route to the NCAA.

Ah come on. I'm not really a fan of the kid, but his athleticism is still pretty good. Even if he underachieves, I'd still see him as a bench player with a long career. No way some team is going to draft him 7-10th, and let him go after two years.

A mature coach would have taken him aside and brought him back to earth, especially following the tantrum he threw on OSU's bench a couple of weeks ago when he reportedly left the playing area. Unfortunately, we know why that didn't happen.

This is exactly what Fraschilla said this morning on KC sportstalk radio. They asked him about Smart and Ford's handling and he said "this is something I'm going to talk about on Saturday (during bedlam I'm guessing)...". He went on to say that he saw this coming when OSU lost to Memphis in the 2nd game then when Marcus slapped the backboard at KSU and cost OSU that game. Then the chair incident, and other things.

Sounds like Fran will be fairly critical of Ford, whom Fran said is a good coach who has good offensive and defensive schemes.

He also questioned Ford's handling of Smart in the last :06 of the Tech loss. He said at that point, no way OSU is winning and Ford did a huge disservice to his team by not using that time to instruct Smart on where he went wrong instead of not saying anything to him at all.

I'm sure most aggie fans will think Fran is being an OU homer when he discusses it during Bedlam but IMO, Fran is spot on.

The comparison of Harden aside, this whole play was an example of pure dumb-****ery on Smart's part. He "accelerated" just to the point where he had no shot at blocking or defending the shot, but fouled out of frustration, abnd then shoved a fan. Remember, even with the dunk, it's a 2-point game with 6 seconds left. Fouling was stupid. Now they needed Tech to miss a free throw to have a chance to tie, then Smart continues his clown act and goes ahead and locks it down for Tech by getting a T. To me, it's an example of total lack of game situation awareness. Poor little Marcus is frustrated, so F the rest of the team and their chances of winning the game... If that play is an example of his being NBA-caliber athletic talent, it is an equal example of his being a peewee-caliber mental talent.

TT was up 2 when they were going in for that layup. If you let them have the layup, they are up 4 with 6 seconds left. Probably no chance of winning the game in that case. Smart did right to foul. They guy he fouled only made 1 of his 2 FT's. So without the technical and all that jazz, it would have been OSU ball, down three, with 6 seconds.

I thought it was a two point game before the dunk.

Any OSU fan stupid enough to call Fran an OU home needs a refresher course on how he has beat the drum for Smart, Ford and the entire Poke team since the season got underway. He praised Smart so much during the Bedlam game, one would have thought OSU was the only team playing that day.

That stopped less than a month ago when Fran finally woke up and realized that he was not being objective as a reporter, and that he could no longer ignore the issues Smart brought to the floor. It started with his flopping that was already getting national attention from nearly everyone but him. His criticism escalated after the chair kicking incident.

I like Fran Fraschilla as a color commentator. But any suggestion that he is an OU homer because his son is on our roster is not even close to the truth.

Almost everyone of them!!! :ez-roll::ez-roll::ez-roll:

I'll admit I only saw the replays (I don't have ESPU).

They didn't actually count the dunk, which I thought they had. Makes me want to go back and watch the replay, because it's just something that seems the opposite of what I thought I had seen in the replays. So the initial foul by Smart was actually a great play to keep them in the game. Still down two with Tech on the line, and 6 seconds to go for the tie if Tech misses one.

However, the technical was what ended the game, and was a complete lack of situation awareness. Gave Tech four chances to get the two points they needed to lock it down, and that's what they got.

Sorry for the incorrect assumption on my part. All of the replays I saw, it just seemed like the dunk had counted. I guess with all of the hoopla going on, it's just one of those things where you don't notice something else going on.
