Is acting a fool. Says OSU has been the second best team in the Big 12 over the past 25 years. Aggie Revisionist History.

He must be drunk.

They are second best if you don't count us or Texas.

I saw the comment and thought it was a little much, because it's certainly not a slam dunk, but it's also not that outlandish.

Since the 1990-91 season, OSU has 2 Final Fours, 1 Elite Eight, 4 Sweet Sixteens, 2 conference titles and 2 conference tournament titles.

Without taking the time to look it up, I'm pretty sure both OU and Texas only have 1 Final Four each in that time frame and maybe 1 conference title each. I know OU has a couple of conference tournament titles and a couple of Elite Eights... don't recall if Texas does... seems like they probably have at least one.

So really it depends on how you define "best", but it's not that outlandish.

I'm not 100% sure but I think OU had at least 3 straight conf tournament titles in 01,02 and 03.. 1 final 4, 2 elite 8s
It does seem close now that I think about it.. Maybe because OU has won 4 straight in the series it sorta clouds judgement a little

It's certainly arguable and he's a former OSUx player. Big deal.

So he's proud of his school. OSU had an awesome win today and he's crowing.

Good for them, good for him. I am GLAD to see someone beat Kansas. I'd rather it was OU but OSU doing it is still good.

We'll have our shot at KU for a share of the Big 12 title in Norman in a few weeks...

Was going to post something about Doug being cocky, but after reading this post, I agree. OSU's win only helps us - makes KU within our reach, and we swept OSU, so I assume this win will even help our RPI.

Jeff, strictly on NCAA Tournament success, and cherry-picking the years to avoid the heart of the Billy Tubbs era, it is debatable that OSU is #2. Your NCAA Tournament record is definitely more impressive during that convenient time frame. However, since the start of the Big XII, how many years has OSU been a higher seed than OU entering the conference tournament? Off the top of my head, I can only think of 4 years (2004, 2010-2012). You may have 1998 as well, I'm not sure. That's 4 or 5 years out of the first 18 in the Big XII era. Because of that, I'm knocking you down to the #4 spot.

How convienant that he cuts it off at 25 years

Also the big 12 hasn't been around for 25 years

Please move this to the smack board. We already swept lil brother. They are out of sight out of mind until the next time we kick their ass.

Here's where OU and oswho finished in the conference standings each of the past 25 seasons. OU is listed first below, oswho second.

1989 -- 1/5
1990 -- 3/5
1991 -- 7/1
1992 -- 2/2
1993 -- 5/2t
1994 -- 5/2
1995 -- 3/2
1996 -- 3/4
1997 -- 6/7
1998 -- 2/2
1999 -- 3/5
2000 -- 3/3
2001 -- 3/5
2002 -- 2/3
2003 -- 3/4
2004 -- 7/1
2005 -- 1/3
2006 -- 3/7
2007 -- 7/7
2008 -- 4t/7t
2009 -- 2/5
2011 -- 10/9
2012 -- 8/7
2013 -- 4/3
2014 -- 2/8

Over the past 25 seasons, OU has finished higher than oswho in the regular season conference standings 13 times. oswho's finished ahead of OU 8 times, and the two teams have tied 4 times. Over that span, OU's finished in the bottom half of the conference standings 5 times to oswho's 9 times. In those 25 years, OU has won 32 Bedlam games; oswho has won 27. OU's won 4 conference tourneys; oswho's won 3.

And though it apparently pains Jeff to acknowledge it (I can only assume that's why his memory stops at 1991, not the 25 years Gottlieb cited), OU also has two regular-season conference titles (one outright, one shared with KU -- just like oswho). OU also won the conference championship in 1988, but that's going 26 years back, so I'll stick with Gottlieb's 25-year span, even if Jeff is unwilling to.

Oh, and as for the NCAA tourney: OU's appeared in 18 NCAA tourneys over the past 25 years; oswho's been to 17. OU's been to two Sweet Sixteens, two Elite Eights, and one Final Four. They also played for a national title -- but that was 26 years ago.

Yes, it's very convenient that Dougie G. cited a 25-year span. Very convenient, indeed.

I'm curious. What are the teams' records?

Since 1987-1988 season

OU 617-287 (261-170 in conference)
osu 596-306 (241-189 in conference)

if you exclude 1987-1988

OU 582-283 (249-168)
osu 582-290 (237-179)

These are as of the conclusion of today's games

It's real clear to me. Use whatever timeframe you want but, regardless of which one you use, over the last 50 years, OU is clearly the better program and easily the 2nd best program in the Big 8 or Big 12 eras.

At the very best, those people can manipulate the timeframe to show they are comparable. The facts are what they are. At times, they have been very close, but, by and large, OU has been the superior program for most of our lifetimes.

Wow. Great work, Max. I find the record excluding 1987-88 to be very spooky! For the overall wins from 1989-present to be identical, is really strange, IMO.

The #1 thing though when comparing programs is this: what have you done for me lately. It's all recruits really care about and, honestly, it's all that matters. Along that line of the thinking, I'm sure anyone with half a brain knows who the superior program is and it's not close, regardless of whatever voodoo hex that school seems to have on KU.

Honestly though, who would say best in 26 years? 25 is just a nice number.

A valid point. Jeff, on the other hand, feels 23 is a nice number.

The real point is, oswho (which has been to three Sweet Sixteens over those 25 years, not four) has not been better than OU over the past 25 years.
