Harrison about Kaminsky during post game

UK is embarrassed and apologies have been issued.

This "story" is already getting to be old news. Time to move on.

It's only been a little over 12 hours (most of which people spent sleeping), and most people are just now hearing it. I don't see how it's old news if so many people still haven't heard.

I just bothered me hearing it live. Didn't shake hands either after game. Sounds like a sore loser to me (a mandatory PR Twitter apology doesn't change much).

If Kaminsky said that about Harrison he would be suspended from the championship game, probably expelled from school, etc.

This is the first I've heard of it. Clicked the link, heard his remarks, and honestly I'm surprised we don't see this stuff happen more often in competitive sports. I think what has to really piss Kentucky off is Wisconsin revenged their loss against Kentucky last season which derailed THEIR hopes of playing in the title game. Considering what Kentucky had going this year, Wisconsin one up'd Kentucky in a HUGE way and the Cats know it. Now these potential NBA players at Kentucky have the ball in their court (pun intended) to perhaps come back and try again which they know won't happen due to $$$$. Their chances for a one and done story book perfect year have been brutally dashed by a team who served up some good 'ole fashion revenge... the kind that forces one to come back down to earth.

I don't blame the Kentucky players for being angry with that. They have every right to be butt hurt. You almost expect some sort of trash talk.

If they want to change the culture than they need to clean up their own vocabulary. Glad to see kids who stay in school beat the untouchables with many one and dones.

Oh I agree with the vocabulary thing wholeheartedly. I am white and had black friends growing up. We referred to each other as niggas because that title to us meant you were a trusted member of the crew. We didn't call others that name that like Drew did... only members of our crew were considered a nigga.

But bottom line is... don't use the word if you are going to be reverse racist about it.

Double standards are wreaking havoc in society nowadays.

Also wreaking havoc are people that want to play the victim, people that make mountains out of molehills, and people that don't want to take responsibility for their own lives/actions.

You know a word basically doesn't mean what it once did when you hear a black kid describe that word as a white kid. Anymore the N word as it is used is more of a compliment from a black person than it is an insult. Which is probably a good thing because it means we are closer to being less racist as a society.

The amazing thing is that there is still a minority of obtuse people in the USA who lack the ability to draw a distinction between a white person using the N word in a derogatory, discriminatory and exclusionary manner and a black person using the N word as a harmless adjective.

Let alone the fact Harrison contracted Kaminsky immediately (even before the Wisconsin press conference last night) to explain and apologize if any offense was taken. Which of course none was according to Kaminsky.

You think Kaminsky could have gotten away with saying "F*** that cracker"?

No.

a 19yo kid made a stupid comment within earshot of a mic after an emotional game? OH NO!

I just don't think it's that big of a deal. I'd rather spend more time praising Wisconsin than blowing this out of proportion.

BTW - this wasn't a slam on the OP. It's a slam on the media.

and dont even start with the reverse racism crap.

I'm sure he could, since it clearly wouldn't be racist. Obviously if he said what Harrison said verbatim, it would be a big deal.

As Boca said, there is clearly a large difference between using a word in a manner that is clearly intended to be derogatory on the sole basis of race (see the SAE song).

Harrison should rightly be chided for being a cry baby and a sore loser, but it's pretty clear that it's not a racist statement.

Actually yes he would have. People would have laughed and wondered WTF he was talking about. lol

If Harrison had said what you wrote people would be all over him. It would be a huge deal and rightly so.

No such thing as reverse racism. It's either intentionally racist or it's not. Only the kid who said it knows.

I totally agree with you that it's not that big of a deal.

For the record, I laughed when I saw the interview. It wasn't meant to be heard publicly, and I'm sure far worse was said in the locker room. In the end, it was awkward and embarrassing...and kinda funny. I don't want him punished. I just don't want a white guy punished if ever in the same situation, but I know he would be.

I have to completely disagree with your belief that white people and black people are held to the same standard for this kind of thing. It's easier for somebody to be forgiven for murder in American than it is for a white male to be forgiven for perceived racism.

I think that is what it is. He isn't the first and won't be the last.

what a bone-head move on his part.

the double standards are at-large now days
