Hoping for a graduate transfer big

We're apparently pursuing Jimmy Whitt, a combo/PG transfer from Arkansas, which is pretty interesting. He'd have to sit out a year and, I believe have 3 years to play.

Lol. Tell how big of a fan you are of OU?

lol, just love this response when someone questions whether OU will be at a certain spot or not...what a joke.

OU loses (I beleive) 78% of their scoring next year? prob 80+% of rebounds...the ONLY stat that we don't lose is blocks per game but yet someone who thinks 2 teams, OU split with, that have more guys (starters ksu for sure, not sure about ut) coming back would probably be ahead of OU is not a fan...lol. That's a good one.:ez-roll:

Yeah, we have Woodard and Lattin...the bench guys have POTENTIAL...but that's all it is.

So, go ahead and predict where OU will be in the B12 next year...

Ou lost 6 conference games this year with the POY( and best player Lon will ever have ) and 2 sr's who have started for over a 100 games .
What makes you people so sure we make a tourney???
Game plans were centered around stopping Buddy , do you think Woodard is going to duplicate last seasons shooting much less exceed???
Latin shows no offensive promise what so ever not to mention in two seasons still hasn't figured how to stay out of foul trouble .... Will he ever ??
James looks to be the future of this program but has only shown it handful of games . Can he grow off this year and give us a full season of being a meaniful starter?

I think the ONLY reason we can make it is if our juco pg is a stud from day one and a true freshman or two( not to mention transfers ) have no learning curve and contribute Ina good way from day one .
This includes grandstand who might play at semester .

I just think we will be righy on the fringe ( tourney wise )at best .

WV will be better
Texas will be better
k state will be better
tech will be better
Kansas will be Kansas
Osu will be better

Iowa state qnd Ou will take the worst hits .

The big 12 is tough and will be even more competitive ( top to bottom ) compared to last season

Can't see this. We seem to be overloaded in the guard/wing department with McGusky, Woodard, James, Odomes, Strong, Grandstaff and Doolittle.

The search for a transfer 5th year big makes more sense, since we don't have a bruiser coming back and Manyang is an iffy proposition. Manyang may turn out to be a great player but with his injury history and slow development it's risky to put all our eggs in AK's basket.

Buford is too small to replace Spangler while Freeman and Doolittle seem too frail. They may both turn out to be weight room fiends but still, it may be better to bring them along slowly and find a veteran they can bang against in practice.

More than likely at least one guy is going to transfer out of the program after this coming season. We have 5 sophomores and 3 freshmen, and there aren't goign to be minutes for everyone.

correct

b/c the talent is there. If you go look at the top 60+ teams and don't think we have better talent than a lot of them, I don't know what to tell you.

It just depends. Woodard will be a focal point of the offense. We will lean on him getting in the lane more which is not a bad thing.

Latin shows no offensive promise what so ever not to mention in two seasons still hasn't figured how to stay out of foul trouble .... Will he ever ??
I think he shows a ton of offensive promise. He really has a smooth finish around the basket. I bet he works on his mid range game a bunch this offseason and you will see him stretching out a bit more.

this is really just ridiculous. Not really sure what else to say

WV lost their only legit Big and probably best player/plus a guard.. Texas could lose Taylor, Ebeh, Ridley, Lammert or whatever his name is and a senior guard. KU as you know lost a lot.. 2 big time players and a legit bench player plus a backup big!

So I don't agree with the statement that all of those teams will be better. They all will be good for sure.. but everyone in the big 12 is good except TCU most years.

Those teams can all be better, and OU can still have better talent and better coaching.

Are some of you just watching college basketball for the first time? This won't be the first time OU has lost 2-3 good players. Teams graduate good players all the time. Yes, OU lost a lot of scoring. But I think James showed us during the last month or so of the season that if he needed to score more, he could have. Woodard has experience. James has experience. Strong will have two years of JUCO. Buford will have been on campus for about three years when next season starts. Same for McNeace (I think). Odomes will have been on campus for over a year. Freeman for a year. McGusty is a top 50 guy, sometimes those guys come in and contribute meaningfully from day 1.

Have some faith in Lon Kruger.

Wisconsin is a good example of this too. They lost two first round NBA draft picks, got off to a horrible start, and rather easily made the Dance and even made a run. That's what good programs with good coaching do.

Kentucky, Uconn, and North Carolina all missed the tournament the year after their last titles.

UK and NC are kind of feast/famine with their recruiting. I'm guessing both lost more than 3-4 players after those titles.

And just b/c it's happened, doesn't make it common or normal.

Would you take a chance on Anthony Livingston graduating senior from Arkansas State who averaged 16 and 10 for the last two years? 6'8" 230. Improved his free throw shooting to 86% last year.

If we were taking a big to sit for a year, I'd hope we'd try to get Daniel Giddens from Ohio State 6'10 230. He was a top 40 recruit and was a sophomore. A serious head on the rim guy. Don't know if he's friendly with Grandstaff or why Ohio State has lost almost their entire recruiting class from the last two years.

Also Dwayne Morgan, a 5 Star top 20 guy Sophomore from UNLV, is likely worth a schollie. If he had a year to beef up, at 6'8 he'd be a monster.

I'm all for "increasing the talent on the OU roster", but you have to be careful not to recruit over guys while gaining very little in terms of production. If the staff thinks they will see marked improvement from guys already on the roster, they aren't going to create some weird backlog situation by taking a one year guy, especially in a year when we aren't supposed to contend.

Some people can't be realistic about their own team. They think every recruit is the best and every season is going to be a sweet 16 atleast. They can't be objective. They can't get past their Crimson colored glasses. So they automatically think people are tearing down the team if they give a realistic OPINION of what they think will happen next year.

Honestly. The way I see it is if we get 20 wins and finish 10-8 or 9-9 in conference that will be a success. And of course in hoping for a tourney bid.

We just finished with a 12-6 record in conference so to think we will bring back a team that can do anything more then that in the best conference in the country and when we do lose 80% of our scoring is really just being unrealistic. Next year is a rebuilding year and there's nothing wrong with that. We aren't Kansas and "reload" that's what OU football does. Maybe one day we will be on that level. But for now we are a notch below that. Again. This is just MY opinion.

LIterally nobody thinks this

next year is only a rebuilding year in terms of we will have alot of players in different roles and replacing a lot. But it won't be rebuilding in terms of starting from scratch and being a terrible team.

and BTW, predicting 15 wins total is just as unrealistic as thinking we will surpass last years conference win total

Yep. Agreed. Have to be realistic both ways.

Don't think there is a possibility we would be that bad. Players have enough experience to be a little better then what Texas tech was this last year. Which would put us at around 20 wins and .500 in conference.

Exactly. Rebuilding as in building this team to be a contender in the next 2 years.

Never said anything in regards of starting from scratch or that we would be terrible. Think this team will have talent and could have games where they light up a top 10 team and pull off an upset and they will have games where they struggle. Rebuilding to be the type of team we had this year.
