I remember people clinging to John Blake

Not another Blake/Capel comparison.

Once again for seemingly the millionth time, that comparison is comical to say the least. It doesn't fit at all.

I'm not comparing anything other than the following

Football team was struggling with a coach. Some wanted him out, some said he needed another year

The basketball team is faced with the same fork in the road.

A very simple situational high level comparison.

If you want to yearn for another coach, at least yearn for one who doesn't have a reputation as a partier who has a problem with alcohol.

Is it better to cling to one that is smug to th administration and to the AAU circuit?

BCG would come cheap, is it possible he has matured?

If you want to compare him to a former OU Football coach it's probably Gary Gibbs.

Switzer liked to and still does party yet he is revered. I know you can do better than that.

Barry's was a different era. It's much tougher to overcome those problems in the age of the internet.

There's no doubt Gillespie is an excellent coach. I just can't see us taking a chance on him.

Which is a freaking joke, but I digress.

In any case, this was poor timing for this thread. We just got a good win, and the team is obviously improving...regardless of whether or not you want Capel gone, enjoy that! That's how I feel anyways.

I really don't believe that most are clinging to coach Capel, as much as they are just trying to stay supportive of the team. I know my personal stance is that I will support JC until the admin. decides to make a change, if they see fit. When that happens, I will get just as solidly behind whoever they hire, just as I was with Bliss, Tubbs, Sampson, and now Capel.

There will always be those who choose a certain coach, or even a player over the TEAM, but I believe that most here who are supporting JC are doing so because they love OU. He is an easy guy to like, IMO.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I would only add that I want the Sooners to be the best they can be and let the chips fall where they may on the coaching front.

Jeff has 5 years left on his contract after this year.. I really think he will be at OU for a long time. They will be much improved next year.

I'm shocked to see htown on this board after a win.

This.

It is nice to be rid of some of those guys, at least for a day or two until they come up with their argument about how Tech and CU aren't any good. Funny that those are two teams we've had to hear about constantly on this board the past 2 years.

Wouldn't be surprised if we pick up two more wins this year against the great Doc Sadler and the unstoppable Travis Ford.
