If KU wins the league this year, no one is ever going to win

I'm one of those people who likes to have facts on my side when I debate. You pointed to it being their least talented team, so I gave a specific example within the past six years of a less talented team. You then shifted your position to point to the fact that this year's team is less experienced. You are correct about that, but it wasn't your initial point.

No, you're a contrarian who argues with everyone in every thread about complete nonsense.

Ugh. This board is like a married couple that is all tense and just needs to bang one out to relax. Go get us some wins guys ASAP!!

You think that this year's KU team is more talented than the 2012 team?

That KU team had 4 guys who played in the NBA, three of which were upperclassmen on that team.

How many on this year's KU's team that are currently playing will make it to the NBA?

Who are you counting as the NBA guys? Robinson and Withey are two, and Taylor had a cup of coffee but then headed overseas . Ben McLemore wasn't eligible that season. They also had no depth. Their bench barely played, and didn't even score in the title game.

On this year's team, I think Lawson is probably slightly better than 50/50 to make a roster. Grimes will make it, and likely Dotson. Vick is a wild card ... if he could ever be consistent, he could be a three point specialist off the bench. Doke is a fringe guy but obviously doesn't really count because he is hurt. And as crazy as this sounds to those who haven't watched them much, the freshman who just came off redshirt definitely could be an NBA player down the road. Arguably their best athlete and is already playing very well after only a few games. He was their best player last night. I'm not saying it's a vintage KU team, but unfortunately, they are like the Patriots...I can't stand them, people tend to write them off midway through the season, then Self somehow works magic. Again, no one on Earth will be happier if/when it ends, I'd LOVE to be wrong. And I expect all of you to chirp me if that happens lol.

Grimes will make it? Have you checked his stats lately? He’s averaging just over 8 ppg while shooting 33% from three point range. He has more turnovers than assists, none of which are all that impressive for a point guard with NBA potential. Grimes might make it to the league someday. It won’t be this year.

I said in mid December that this KU team didn’t have the guards and wings we usually see every season. There is no Mason or Graham to run the offense. No guard or wing capable of scoring on his own at crunch time. Vick is too inconsistent. If he’s not knocking down threes, he’s limited offensively. I also said that if Dedric Lawson gets so much as a hang nail to slow him down, KU is in trouble.

The Jayhawks hole card is the best coach in the Big 12, and in the country for that matter. So, it would be a mistake to count his team out completely. Still, I think even you may not be as confident as you used to be about another Big 12 title.

I'm not predicting Grimes will leave this season. I didn't think that was what 152219 meant, my bad if I misread that. But I absolutely think he will eventually make it. His stats are similar to Buddy's freshman year numbers, the difference is that Grimes was a projected lottery pick coming into the year so he has been a big disappointment so far. But he isn't a point guard, so his assist to turnover ratio isn't as big a concern as his shooting numbers. He's lost himself a lot money this season, so he needs to come back to improve his stock.

Sorry, I forgot that McLemore didn't play that year (I thought it was the previous year). But, I would still take that upperclassmen laden KU team than this year's KU team. Lawson isn’t as good as Robinson and Taylor was excellent that year (much better than any of the guards on this year's KU team, at least on the college level).

I still think KU is going to win the league, because they have the most talent (and there isn't a top quality team in the Big 12 to unseat them), but I think after Dook went down for the season that this may be Self's worst KU team. Guess we will see. If they make a run in the NCAA tourney I'll come back and say that I was wrong.

My bad. I should have known you didn’t mean this season. But, in a way you kinda made my point about KU’s guards. Grimes and Dotson are freshmen with the potential to be really good in a year or two. They’re not even close to a Mason or Graham right now. No one is on that team that I have seen. I don’t think Vick has much of a chance at making a roster. For one thing, his background may be a factor, and he simply isn’t good enough to overcome the reputation he seemed to work so hard to build the previous two seasons.

Obviously losing Azubuike for the season was a huge blow. Dedric Lawson is doing a great job of carrying the team right now. He just doesn’t have much help. If he decides not to jump to the league when the season is over, it will be because he doesn’t want to leave his brother. I think he’s that good.

I just read a very reputable draft guy do a projection a couple days ago and he has Lawson as mid-to-late second round if he comes out due to his poor athleticism. He loves him as a player but said he will need to improve his three-point shooting in order to succeed in the NBA. He didn't have Vick listed, but said he views him as a guy who will probably start in the G-League and potentially play his way onto a roster. And I agree that they don't have anyone who is currently as good as Graham and Mason were at the end of their careers, but Dotson is far better than either of them were as freshman. But like a couple posters pointed out, there isn't one high level team in the league this year to take them out. If we had another top 10 team, I think KU would be in real trouble, but everyone else in the league is going to lose at least five games, and I just think KU will be able to at least match that.

That 2012 team finished third in the nation in defensive efficiency.

The next two games are going to decide this. Tech at home, in Manhattan. If they win both, they are back in the driver's seat. Split them it's wide open. Lose both and they are most likely out of it.

But the biggest problem is they aren't very good. Even the games they are winning they are squeaking out. And their poor guard play is going to make every road game a nightmare. And I'll add for clarity: they are still clearly a top half of the league and a tourney team. Just nowhere near what we've come to expect out of Kansas, or why they've won the league so many times in a row.

Garret out today for KU with an ankle injury. Takes away their best perimeter defender and a guy Self has been reluctant to sub out for more than a couple minutes lately. Tech could do the league a huge favor by going in there and winning, but I have a feeling KU is going to play one of their better games today. The good news for Tech is that I won't be at the game ... it's been approximately 100 years since KU has lost a home game when I'm in the building lol.

I think they are going to be in sole possession of first by Wednesday night. Missing two starters and absolutely taking Tech to the woodshed. This was the most predictable results of the day.

How much did you bet on it?

IF? If KU wins the league?

It’s a done deal. Again.

Pretty crazy conference race coming down the stretch. Five teams have a legitimate shot at the title from a standings perspective, although I'm not buying Baylor as a legit contender yet.

We may very well get a chance to end the streak when KU comes to Norman.

That windmill dunk was the nail in their casket

I can’t believe the streak is over. Never would’ve bet against them.

Way to go, KSU! I hope either KSU or ISU can take it, since OU is out of the running.

This is a year where Self can finally not tank a game to help OSU out, like it seems he does every year (even that year when OSU lost 20 games).

sure ... but I was declared an idiot for speculating earlier that KU shouldn't be the favorite.
