I have a few friends in Dallas who are really big fans of OU. One of them follows the WBB program pretty regularly.

We were talking about the upcoming game this weekend between the Baylor lady bears and Oklahoma. He told me that Sherri Coale has a higher winning percentage in Big 12 games than any other coach. He went on to say that the OU program has won more Big 12 games than any other team.

I told him that I doubted this could be true. But he stuck to his claims.

Sooooo..... I decided to check it out.

I went to the OU official website to see if these claims were really there. Lo and behold, it DOES make both of these claims.

http://www.soonersports.com/school-bio/sherri_coale.html

Sherri Coale and the Sooners lead all coaches and teams in Big 12 Conference wins and winning percentage. In the 15 years since the Big 12 was formed, the Sooners lead with 168 regular-season wins (.651) in conference play

This is inacurrate information on both counts. Kim Mulkey has a higher winning percentage in Big 12 play than Sherri Coale does. Also, the Baylor Lady Bears are the all time leaders in total conference wins and winning percentage. Not by much, but technically, Baylor does hold the lead.

At the close of the 2011-12 season, the all time conference records were as follows:

BU 169-89
OU 168-90

Also, all time conference winning percentage:

Mulkey: 73.19%(142-52)
Coale: 65.11%(168-90)

To start this season, Mulkey is 16-1(6-0) and Coale is 15-3(5-1). So Mulkey/BU have actually extended their leads a bit this year.

We are so thrilled you did the research on this. As someone else wrote a couple days ago, please stay on the Baylor boards.

Thanks for posting this true colors. Regardless of the impact, soonersports should be accurate in the statistics they present.

Mulkey without a doubt has (so far) had one of the most exceptional careers in the history of women's basketball. Everything in her past prepared her excellently for her position at Baylor and she has made the most of that preparation. With the help of DFW-Elite she is at the moment the winningest Big 12 Coach. And like TC, she carries that mantle with such class and distinction....

Regardless of the sport, the OU media guides should be accurate. Men's basketball had several in the 80's that got screwed up - things like tournament games being recorded as home games when they weren't, listing the all-time series record with UNM as 1-0 (and NMSU also 1-0), when they played UNM twice and have never played NMSU.

But, anything that discredits Skeletor can be corrected gradually, in my book.

As much as I hate to agree with TC on anything, this agrees with my numbers for regular season wins and losses. I don't have the numbers handy if you're including conference tourney w-l in there.

Code:
 1. Baylor 169-89 .655
 2. Oklahoma 168-90 .651
 3. Iowa State 157-101 .609
 4. Texas Tech 153-105 .593
 5. Texas 150-108 .581
 6. Kansas State 138-120 .535
 7. Nebraska 113-127 .471
 8. Texas A&M 108-150 .419
 9. Colorado 100-140 .417
10. Kansas 100-158 .388
11. Oklahoma State 91-167 .353
12. Missouri 83-175 .322

BU passed OU in regular season win-loss record last season. OU had been the leader for 3 years before that. Tech held that distinction for the 11 years previous to that. Kansas was on top the first season of the Big 12.

See if this works.
Cumulative win-loss I've kept for the entire history of the Big 12.
Sorry Texas Tech is in all caps. I'm a Tech fan and put this together for a Tech forum. Too much trouble to change them all right now. :ez-laugh:

Has anybody actually looked

HAS ANYBODY ACTUALLY LOOKED...at the page TC is referencing? You may have to spend some time searching through the fine print to find the offending statements. I'll give you a hint - they are in an obscure sidebar paragraph that obviously didn't get updated last year, since it refers to a 15 year history when everything else refers to 16 years.

It does need to be corrected, but but I'm impressed with the amount of Sherri Coale biography that TC had to go through to find it. The reading can only have done him good.

mgood thank you for some very interesting yearly comparisons. As opposed to TC you may return at any time.

tc & Sulkey are like two peas in a pod. A coach who became apoplectic when DRob was on the All-Tournament team deserves a fan who becomes upset about something equivalent to a footnote on a webpage.

Re: Has anybody actually looked

Holy cow, is it BEAT BAYLOR week and I haven't posted over here yet?

Well sheeeeeet, let me TOP your OU sports site finding error ability!
http://i47.tinypic.com/wa6gpy.png

If you don't follow me on SF.com, I'm the one that's trying to con all the football fans into liking basketball, at least during football's offseason. One of those ways is via a womens basketball thread, where I (endlessly bash baylor) discuss Sherri's awesome team. Part of that is posting occasional images.

SO YOU MEAN WE HAVE ERRORS ON OUR SPORTS SITE?! I knew that the day they posted our media guide online. If you clicky on the linky I have provided, it says that we made the Final Four in 2012, when everyone knows that we Sooners won the national title. I can't believe that they overlooked this obvious oversight.

Then again... I overlooked that this was BEAT BAYLOR week... until now:

Like this old lady, everyone must now declare how much they HATE GREEN:

Baylor is going to lose to a Big 12 team this season. It's going to happen. I just hope that we are ones that do it. In this game or the next.

Priceless Badger, just Priceless!!!

Re: Has anybody actually looked

Now that I've gotten that all out of the way, I acknowledge that OU sports has had some inaccuracies on display that have annoyed me in the past (do the LNC shadow boxes upstairs still say that Stacey Dales works for ESPN, despite their much-publicized fallout before going to NFL Network?).

However... do you really wanna go down this road, Baylor fan? Pointing out errors in each other's sports-related stuff?

Because if you do, you might get embarrassed. You are Baylor, after all.

Re: Has anybody actually looked

. . . I acknowledge that OU sports has had some inaccuracies on display that have annoyed me in the past. . . .

I emailed Tech's media relations person a couple years ago and pointed out several discrepancies in the media guide.
I expected to be ignored, or at best, they'd fix it next year if they remembered.
It was updated within the hour!
Must say I was impressed.

Later that same season, I think, Tech was playing Western Kentucky. I was looking at the series history and noticed that one game both teams showed as a road game. I emailed Tech's media person (again) and CC'd WKU's media person who I found on their website. The WKU guy replied that day that it was their mistake and he fixed their media guide that day.

I think these people strive for accuracy, but they have so much information to deal with that some things slip through the cracks.

If a person were to contact the people in charge of keeping such records and politely tell them what you found, it might get corrected. TC would rather b!tch about it on a message board where it will do nothing but aggravate people.

BTW, great post up there badger! :clap

Re: Has anybody actually looked

I emailed either the athletic department or the director himself, don't remember which, about the annoying shadow boxes. I didn't get a reply, but they fired Capel at the end of the season, so IMHO, that's BETTER than a reply! That's ACTION! :D

It sounds kind of like you are suggesting that the information on the official OU website was correct at one time, but that things have changed since then, and that this is merely a simple case of the website not being updated in a while.

If that is what you are saying, then you are not correct about this.

Here is the deal. OU updated the website after the 2011-12 season ended. At that point Baylor had already passed OU in the total win column. OU had 168 conference wins and Baylor had 169. But OU went ahead and updated the website anyway with the claim that 168 wins was more than anybody else.

In other words, this claim was inaccurate from the very moment it was published.

Also, the claim about Sherri Coale having a higher winning percentage in conference play than any other coach is WAY off. Mulkey clearly has a higher winning percentage in Big 12 league play than Coale does. This has been true for at least a few years.

If this bothers you so much, send Joe C. an email. His email is jcastiglione@ou.edu. If you aren't willing to go through the proper channels to get it fixed, shut up about it.

Re: Has anybody actually looked

Texags.com is usually very crazy, but in honor of someone who can't just LET IT GO, I give you: "I'm Baylor:"

texags.com from 2008 or so said:
I have a message for our beloved baptists in Waco. I would appreciate it if someone who goes to their site would link up and send them a message for me.

I want to tell them that I admire them. I admire the fact that they are better fans than we are. I admire them because they've been through so much these past years.

Chuck Reedy, Dave Roberts, Kevin Steele and now Guy Morriss.

Why can't we get better coaches here, they ask? Why can't we get better recruits here? We pray, we pay, we cheer, we wear green, we travel back to Waco now and then, we fly our little flags with our little foam fingers. We care. We want to win.

I want them to read this while the lingering defeat still stings in their loins. I have the answer to these questions. You can read my response and then go have a better life with the satisfaction of having this knowledge.

The reason you can't have better coaches and better recruits is simple.

You're Baylor.

You're not the Aggies or the Whorns. You're not even close. You can't even compete with Tard. TCU? Forget it. I know you're all passionate.

But you're Baylor.

I know you think I'm just running smack, but really I'm not.

You're Baylor.

Say it.

I'm Baylor.

I'm Baylor.

You're getting it.

I'm Baylor. I beat A&M one year out of 20+. Not much better against the other Texas schools. I'm not going to get any better. Really. I'm not. I'm Baylor.

I'm that kid that nobody picked to be on their team. But at that Fall Festival that year, I paid my $10 and dunked the captain of the football team in that dunking booth when he laughed at me for throwing like a girl. And it felt good.

I'm Baylor.

I got voted Most Likely to Succeed from the brass section of the band, and I made them proud by being accepted into a school lower ranked than the other Texas schools. But I paid more than the other kids did.

I'm Baylor.

I went to school in the worst city in this great state. They had to put a school here because otherwise, we'd all have to be Temple College fans.

I'm Baylor.

Notice how I didn't mention Koresh or people who died in your city. You shouldn't mention people who died in my bonfire. Ever again. Because these people are our brothers and sisters, and our pain for them is real.

But you won't do that anymore because now you know who you are.

You're not getting any better.

You'll never be worth mentioning on ESPN except when you take your annual asskicking by your fellow Texas schools you piggybacked into this great conference (our most sincere apologies to TCU).

You're Baylor.

And you'll be watching your daddies during the bowl season.

Decorate your trees and trim them with the green and gold. Spend Christmas with nighttime dreams of candy canes, Jolly St. Nick and an upset at Kyle or against Texas next year.

And then wake up. Take a whizz. Comb your hair. Kiss your kids.

And then remember what I told you.

You're Baylor.
