Iowa State's Royce White headed to the NBA?

That certainly helps OU out next year. Thanks Royce!

I am not really sure who he reminds me of in the NBA... he is a pretty unique player. Can shoot, pass, handle, etc at 6'8'' or 6'9''. Maybe Kevin Love? He has that type of skillset and size.

Doesn't look like an NBA player to me. Not much use for 6'7" heavy guys who can't shoot.

He's big baby without a shot.

This...really good college player, going to struggle in the NBA.

Royce is an interesting case. I see him as a less athletic Josh Smith (Hawks) or a more athletic Big Baby Davis. The most obvious comparison I keep hearing is Marcus Fizer but I don't see it. I see him as more of an Antoine Walker without the outside shot.

His ballhandling and passing definitely makes him unique. If he concentrates on rebounding and defense he could have a long career, I would be surprised if he learns to shoot consistently from the outside.

So globe, is a less athletic Josh Smith in the NBA?

The more I think about it my Royce White comparison is a poor mans Byron Houston.

Royce White is five times the ball handler Byron Houston ever was.
Oops, sorry, I forgot that Byron Houston was more of a ball handler... in public.

Brandon Bass, DJ White, Jason Maxiell, David West, Metta World Peace, Zach Randolph, Damion James, Bill Walker, Earl Clark, Thaddeus Young, Hakim Warrick, Chuck Hayes, Kawhi Leonard, Linas Kleiza, Paul Millsap come to mind and I am sure I missed a few.

White has an NBA skillset.

I don't know if he'll ever be a star, but he offers enough that he's at least a 10 year role player (if he's willing to accept that).

Judging by what we saw of White this season, he will accept any role an NBA team wants him to play. If anything, he is too accepting of being a role player.

I agree that he has the size and skill set to have a long and profitable career at the next level. My only question is, will he be aggressive enough for the NBA game, or will he be too passive to ever reach his potential?

All that really matters is that ISU is now going to be much worse next year. They just lost their top 3 players. I think preseason polls will pick OU ahead of ISU. I view this as very positive for OU.

Iowa State will still be pretty solid next year. They have Lucious and Clyburn coming in off transfer years with Babb, Ejim, McGee and Gibson coming back plus their recruiting class. And Hoiberg seems to be pretty good at running the show.

Sorry, but they won't...still going to be a quality club, not the Iowa State under McDermott.
