Is Darrion Strong hurt?

Strong says he’s suffering from Bankart Lesion - shoulder dislocation. Recovery could be low as 12 wks. He feels good, can play.

I agree with you that Trae Young starts if he commits to OU.

Check out another tweet that said 6, likely 12 though.

I'm not trying to argue with you, but I looked at Justin Hite's twitter account after you mentioned it. There isn't anything in there about 6 weeks. Just says a minimum of 12 weeks for recovery after the surgery. I copied and pasted his tweet word-for-word.

The important thing is Strong evidently is going to wait until his juco season is over to have a surgery that has a minimum of 3 months recovery time. It potentially could extend into June, and impact his participation in OU's summer practice schedule.

I'm sure he has discussed the injury with the OU coaches and they agree with his plan. I read some things about the Bankart surgery and it confirms the 3 month recovery period. It's certainly not trivial. He can't even drive for 6 weeks. It sounds like it could mess with his shot ...... kind of a range of motion issue.

Bankart surgery

What is a dislocated arm? I've heard of dislocated shoulders, wrists, and elbows. I assume the arm is dislocated at some joint. I hope it's not Tommy John surgery. He is right-handed.

Maybe the surgery is minor. If not, he should have it now.

I don't have any medical training but wouldn't that be an odd surgery. I thought that was the result of throwing and that is why it is most common in baseball?

this puts the coaches in a sticky situation. Hard to tell a kid he has to do something medically (in fact I'm quite certain you aren't allowed to do that), but I'm also not sure we'd be particularly interested in a JUCO player who can't participate in offseason stuff.

Assuming the reports are correct, and he's ready to go by June, he wouldn't miss all that much (if any) offseason work.

He's signed. We aren't backing out on him.

Agreed. He's actually a pretty good PG/player. He was a 3rd team juco All-American as a true freshman. No easy task.

Assuming Darrion has the surgery around mid-March, he should be available for workouts by mid-June or so. He wouldn't miss much of the off-season workouts, if any. Worst case is he has a redshirt year available.

I kinda like the fact that Strong is doing what he can to help his team instead of bowing out early to make sure he's ready to go this fall. He will only get one chance to finish his sophomore season. More power to the young man for making the ultimate sacrifice when he has a legitimate reason to watch from the sideline as his body heals.

As usedtobe1 said, even if the 12 weeks recovery time is accurate, he should be in a position to participate in the workouts at OU well before the season tips off.

Omar leary was a 1st team all American fwiw. I hope strong can produce more than leary who was an adequate bench player. But i want strong to push to start. But I'm being realistic about his prospects
