Is Lon this good or was Capel that bad???

We actually have organization on offense and defense this year with Kruger. I can't remember the last time I saw that with Capel as coach lol

The correct answer is never. Even when Blake Griffin was on the team, OU did not run good offense or play good defense; however, they were more talented than most teams so they won a lot of games. With a real coach, Blake Griffin wins a National Championship.

No they don't OU was not beating the unc team with wooden coach k knight on the bench

OU played well for what they were working with last year (and yes I know it was Capel's fault that the talent wasn't there).

Guys getting older is a huge deal, especially the freshman to sophomore leap. Osby and Grooms are two of the best players on the team and weren't there last year.

That's a long shot. The guard play wasn't good enough to win a national championship with Blake, unless we just got really lucky. But, our players didn't play well on defense at all under Capel and I agree the offensive strategy was Blake Griffin or nothing. Kruger has turned this team around by changing the attitude and making them a good defensive squad. They still aren't a huge team inside, but they do a good job of rebounding. Last year, our rebounding was laughable.

It didn't matter who our coach was...we wouldn't have won a National Championship that year unless we upgraded our talent. If you believe that we would have won...than your a naive fan. We needed Scottie Reynolds or Damion James or even both to have beaten UNC that year. Willie Warren was our 2nd best player and he would have been the 7th or 8th man on that UNC team. It doesn't help us that Taylor Griffin is our starting PF and UNC has 2 guys(Ed Davis and Ty Zeller) coming off of the bench that would have started over him.

I forget, how many of the NBA's 50 greatest players were on the '83 NC State team?

You go play the game and take your chances. I don't care if they've got Tyler Hansbrough or Pembrooke Burroughs. Ed Davis or Ed Asner. Once that ball is tipped anything is possible.

I really believed Castiglione should have been fired along with Capel. It was such a bogus hire he made. Unfortunately he probably saved his job for the time being. Btw how is my sooners making the tourney prediction looking now boys?

Joe C has upgraded almost every sport since arriving at OU. You think he was going to get fired for one bad hire.

It is not just good players. I'm amazed by how quickly this team has picked up the Kruger system. It is exciting to think of how good we will be when they have a whole season to work on it and then to add M'Bye and the three recruits next year.

My first concern with Capel was when he lost all of Sampson's recruits. When has a good Div I team lost that many recruits with a coaching change.

My second concern was how Anthony Grant took Capel's VCU team to a better record the very first year.

My concerns were allayed somewhat with the arrival of Blake and the three brats (Warren, Tommy and Gallon). But still concerned by how the last Blake team would lose some games by 20+ points.

I'm not sure Capel would have lost to Idaho State but no way would they have beat Wazou and Santa Clara.

Capel got to where he was because of his Duke background and his family connection to college basketball. He is probably where he needs to be for now and as he seems to be a good guy hopefully he will go on to a good career.

Good one. So how did it look four games ago? Or you can't decide and just want to talk big?

You're 4-0 against four teams that will be lucky to make the NIT. None were NCAA teams a year ago. These first four wins do suggest improvement over last year's squad that lost to Chaminade, but that's about it.

How your prediction looked to me four games ago doesn't matter. The point is these first four wins aren't the type that are going to change opinions.

Outside of Baylor have we even beaten NIT type teams or better the last couple years? Nobody would have picked us to start this year 4-0 after game one.

Right. Your 4-0 start indicates you're likely better than the 14-win team you had last year or the 13-win team of the prior season.

Still, there was a lot of optimism here a year ago after a 3-0 start followed by a "close" 12 point loss to Kentucky. And you did have comparable wins in your non-conference schedule in 2009-10 (you had a six game win streak that year which included wins over Arkansas and Arizona; Arizona was coming off a Sweet 16 season).

Maybe OU will make the tournament this year, but the first four games aren't an indicator that it's likely.

I'm not 100% sure we may the tournament but NIT is a real possibility right now and that's a huge leap from where we've been the last couple years.

At the very least I don't have to cringe when I turn on the tv and watch OU play. Last year was so brutal. Capel faults were to me that he didn't bring in the right players and those he brought in he couldn't either control or coach up. Yes he had a great run with Blake but can anybody recall(without looking it up) who coached Larry Bird at Indiana State when they had their great year.
A great player can make any coach look like John Wooden for 1 season.
Capel was like a baseball rookie who has 1 wonderful year the flames out.

If you think there was a lot of optimism last year, you were not reading this board. The majority of posters here were never under the illusion that a talented-depleted team with no size, depth or firepower on offense would rise out of the ashes of a 13-18 record the previous season to make the dance. There are always a few diehards that can't see or refuse to face the truth. They were definitely in the minority.

Go ahead, rain on our parade if you want. But this team is light years ahead of where we were at the end of last season, much less at the beginning. I'm not saying OU will be dancing come March. I do say, this team is so much better than last year, it's a complete waste of time to debate the differences.

I disagree an adult brings in two Juco players and actuall y plays organized basketball to beat Roy Williams and send him home crying with the most talented team. Roy is quite good at loosing with the best team in the NCAA tournament

... See these type of comments are just what I was talking about when I discussed in another thread how JC UNFAIRLY endures personal attacks from some of OUr fans. I can totally understand the dislike of his coaching decisions, but why take a personal shot at the guy???

What exactly did he do while here to NOT qualify as an adult?? I don't recall reading about him drinking on campus corner, picking up college aged girls, getting arrested for DUI, punching a player, using drugs, or any other childlike behaviors. He simply did not get it done as a coach, and if that is enough to attack the guy's character, then I want no parts of that, or the people who do it......

I will be so glad when the bitter dozen decide to focus on what is going on now, and let OUr former coach become OUr former coach.:facepalm:facepalm
