It's quiet -- too quiet

I'll be (mostly) recovered from a tough loss and ready to cheer on our football team when Saturday rolls around, but today I need some basketball news! Come on, people -- come through with some accounts of yesterday's scrimmage!

I was at the scrimmage yesterday. I'll try and provide a brief summary of what I remember.

Heild looked really good. He was always active and was able to score from downtown or from a fancy display under the basket.

Cousins has a good midrange jumper and seems to have really good court vision. He was able to put the ball in the right spots on the offense.

Hornbeak is what you might expect from Hornbeak at this time. He's a solid glue guy. He did a bit of everything yesterday and didn't really have any major flaws in his game.

Bennett was the best I've ever seen him play. Most of his points came off dunks and under the basket moves. If he can play like that I'd rather not red shirt him because he'd be able to contribute serious minutes.

Arent's post game looked a little more refined. He was able to score in spots that someone of his height should be able to. Definitely improved from last season, but not leaps and bounds different.

Spangler struggled some. He did have a couple good moves to the basket. But for the majority of the game he was being guarded by Osby or M'baye, so he didn't have an easy match-up.

Grooms looked like he did last season. He's quick up and down the court and can be strong to the basket. It seemed like he was frustrated because his spent most of the time running the offense for the less talented white team. He did drain a three though... and then missed three more (Although one was in-and-out for what it's worth.)

Osby didn't have a particularly memorable scrimmage. Not to say he did anything poorly, he had a solid game and always seemed to be in the right spot.

Neal struggled while he ran with the Whites, but once he got switched to the Red team he started to come alive. He seems to get better when he has a stronger supporting cast (which I guess can be said of all basketball players). But Tyler seems to be more aggressive this season and looks less loss on the court then he had at times during his freshmen and sophomore years.

Pledger was Pledger. He found ways to score even with a man in his face.

Fitzgerald's range has improved. He also looks a little quicker on the court, at least on the offensive end.

M'baye looked really good. He drained a 3, had some nice dunks and was aggressive the entire game. He's going to be a touch match-up no matter he's placed on the court.

I was most impressed with Clark. During the scrimmage he seemed (finally) able to combine his sheer athleticism with solid basketball skills. He was able to create his own shot, his jumper looked refined, and he was able to attack the boards and his defender with ferocity. With the pieces OU currently has, if Clark has made a big leap I will have a lot of faith that this Sooner squad could see some post-season action.

That's what I'm talking about -- thanks, Gimper!

Thanks. I watched it on line and that sure helps fill in the blanks. A couple of things that I could mention are what I heard from the mic'ed up Kruger.

When Bennett was in the midst of his scoring flurry early on, Kruger said to the assistant standing next to him, "we may not have to worry about that redshirt."

Another one that made me smile concerned Cousins. He had taken the inbound pass and under pressure had right away dribbled himself into a tight spot. Even on line he was telegraphing what was coming. Kruger starting yelling "No,Isaha No." Cousin fired a 3/4 court bounce pass to a wide open Pledger who took 3 dribbles and made an easy layup. Kruger then said to whoever was standing next to him, "well, I guess it was a perfect pass."
