I was in Harrah last night to check out Mustang point guard Jakolby Long, son of former OKC Douglass coach and current Mustang coach Terry Long.

Long is a powerful looking point guard prospect who has changed the look of the Mustang program. He is physical, athletic, and skilled. The biggest thing he did last night was rebound and advance the basketball, getting Mustang in their offense. He is an effective passer that found his Mustang teammates on the perimeter for open looks. He was also strong to the basket. He didn't take many perimeter shots but has shown the ability to shoot the ball well on other occasions. The 6 foot 4 freshman finished the Harrah tournament as MVP combining for 38 points and 30 rebounds in 3 games, very good numbers for a first year high school player. I feel he will be nationally ranked and a high major prospect. I know he is on OU's radar and wouldn't be surprised to see the Sooner's start early in their recruiting of him.

Also Austin Meyer is another Mustang player that will be on the radar as well. He is a 6'8 post prospect that is raw but shows a good offensive skill set. Like Long he also is a freshman.

I've yet to watch them play, but this team will give some people fits this year. In a 2OT loss last week to PCO, they made up a 15 pt 4th quarter deficit with 3 freshmen and 2 sophomores on the floor. Their soph class has a couple a decent players and, of course, the frosh class is stout. Don't forget about Chandler Garrett either. It'll be interesting if they get any move-ins the next couple of years.

To my understanding Garrett is a very good football prospect. On the court he's a tough inside/outside player that they use at the high post. His size,
6'4, is more for a wing type player and he's not quite there yet.

It looks as if that program will be competing in a few years. I do know that Missouri may be a concern if Long blows up. His older brother plays football there and he often wears Mizzou gear. I know he's also on their radar.

The other freshman that may end up on OU's radar is Curtis Haywood II of OKC Casady. He just had a week where he averaged 22 points per game, albeit against not so great competition, but that's very good for a first year player. He also is in the 6'3 to 6'4 range and plays both guard positions. His father played at US Grant in the 90's and had an extensive career overseas.

Point guard Marcus Dickinson out of Norman North might be another name to keep an eye in that 2016 class. It could be loaded in Oklahoma.

Finally got to watch them tonite. Jakolby is an extremely polished young player. Great team player who's motor NEVER stops. He doesn't really get any lift on his jumper from range, but he knocked down a couple of 3s when the game (with Edm North) was in serious jeopardy. The kid is wise beyond his age. I don't know the kid from Edm North (supposedly a Carl Albert xfer), but he and Long went back and forth all night. To say Long held his own would be an understatement. I'm excited to watch this kid grow up.

Additionally, the Austin Meyer kid (6'8" freshman) looked extremely skilled. He has room to get better, but is very athletic, runs well and has nice skill around the basket - his footwork needs a bit of work, but HE'S 14!

That squad is going to be a 6A nightmare for the next 3-4 years.

Thanks, guys! Good stuff on some prospects to keep an eye on in the years ahead.

Corlby Ervin is the Edmond North kid, he's a monster at the high school level because of his intensity and athleticism, so that makes what Long did with 27 and 10 even more impressive.

I exchanged texts with his father and coach Terry Long and he has said all of the instate schools have expressed interest and said they would follow his progress while Wichita State has offered Jakolby a scholarship.

The class of 2016 is looking to be the best class of talent in Oklahoma in some time. Long is very good, but not the clear cut number one player in that class.

You are wrong.

Time could change it.

I love the kid. And I hope he comes to OU.

Who? Jakolby Long or the Corlby Ervin? What makes you say that?

MisterF's comment was in December, 2012. The article Calebsk posted when he bumped this thread back to the first page says Long has an OU offer. I doubt if OU would have offered if there was not a mutual interest.

How about it, Calebsk? Does Jakolby have an interest in OU?

I was wondering the same thing. I also hope that Terry Long is okay with OU since David Godbold played for us a few years back and did reasonably well (out of OKC Douglass).

I stand by statement. I know him well. I don't care what Dad tells you. But he is young. Lots of time for LK to make progress. I know he has been a guess at the LNC.

I don't want to speak for him when it comes to interest, but I do know that he recently picked up offers from Houston and Mizzouri. His offers will only continue to grow, as he is active in "Athletes First" Oklahoma's national AAU team, which brings in a lot of attention.
