Joe C sounded kinda pissed there at the end

I thought Joe sounded kinda embroiled in self-guilt and wanted a pat on the back or something.

Shouldn't agree but I do. It looked as if Joe was called out (fairly IMO) for not giving a damn about the bball program. Now he seems defensive. Hopefully, it'll fuel the fire and make OU top-notch where it belongs.

then don't read it. you and wayman both.

I am trying to be less antagonostic now, but I'll be damned if I am going to let someone tell me I can't express my opinion anymore. I certainly paid my dues long enough.

so...don't like it, don't read it. It's mere existence isn't a shock to your soul.

LOL. Poor feller. Boomer Sooner.

My issue with people questioning Joe's commitment to the OU Hoops program is that it's just not true.

When he hired Capel, Jeff was an up and coming name in the hoops world. Sure he might have taken a bit of a reach, but at the time, it appeared to be a decent hire. Jeff goes to the E-8 and it appeared to be a really good/great hire.

Two years later (not 5 like everyone wants to proclaim) after not meeting expectations, he fires Capel (even some Capel haters thought he could get another year or two).

Now, thru the hiring process, we heard rumors of all the hot, big name candidates being considered and we end up with the best of THAT group as far as being a proven commodity.

And people want to take shots at Joe??? I guess I just don't get it. The man owes us NO status updates during the search and ended up with a great hire.

Get over it...Joe C is first class ALL THE WAY...

there were a couple of articles that suggested as much but IMO they had it wrong.

Some of them (TRAMEL) still have this idea that Capel was hired as a less-expensive alternative.

I don't believe that at all. There were many signs to indicate that Capel could (and may still) be a very good coach in due time. His salary being less at the time was just an advantageous by-product.

Then they were apparently angered by his inactivity as things went in a slump and then his silence at the end. I think he was probably just letting JC try to pull it out and/or was at a loss because JC is his friend and is so well liked.

Now if they wanted to say this about Joe because for 20 years we still don't have a cogent plan to rekindle a flame for college basketball among our fans then I might agree.

I got news for ya...Joe C couldn't give out $100 bills and "rekindle a flame" for most OU fans...not for hoops anyway. It has LITTLE to do with marketing, IMO.

I believe the ONLY thing that will help generate better attendance would be an on-campus arena.

I do think that would help a bit Kleg, but getting to the heart of the actual culture is the only real solution. You hafta make kids grow up enamored with OU basketball.

Man, I just don't know if it's possible. Like it or not, Oklahoma is a football state. Until OU wins a NC or two in hoops, I just don't see that changing.

I have a son in the 8th grade and a daughter who's a Jr in HS. The football game attendance at their school is HUGE compared to hoops and they put a pretty good product on the floor most of the time.

Let's all go to a practice next week and I'll film the fight between Coolm and the rest of the free world.

It would make a great video for Kruger's first practice.

JK guys. I am actually looking forward to going to some practices and renewing my season tickets and seeing us play next year. I think Kruger is going to right the ship.

It's not as though games are held in Purcell. Honestly, if the students can't get their butts to LNC, we've got larger problems than basketball attendance.

An on-campus arena might make it convenient for some students, but it would make it less so for off-campus fans.

Is there no shuttle to LNC from the dorms and Greek houses? If not, there should be. It ought to come by ever fifteen minutes starting an hour before tip off and the same for an hour after the game.

And if there already is such a shuttle, I give up.

I agree skyvue

Most students walk that far just to attend class day in and out. As my mother used to say (and really still does) its a matter of "want to".

The student body just doesn't care right now.

we're trying to CATER TO a group in order to increase their attendance...not scold them for being too lazy.

Back in my day (2000), a massive group of us would make the walk from the dorms to LNC. You kids are getting soft. After I moved off campus, it was easy enough to get to LNC. Getting out after the game was always a nightmare.

Going to LNC FEELS like you are in Purcell (as sky put it). It's just a feel thing for me.

Putting it on campus, as has been pointed out on numerous occasions allows for the students AND non-students to eat/drink at Campus Corner and walk over to the game. The non-students get to enjoy the campus just like they do on football Saturdays.

I don't disagree, but we're trying to IMPROVE the experience. I think you'd agree it would've been awesome to be able to have an easier walk from Campus Corner to the games. Right?

Absolutely. I would have loved to have had games on campus. Coming in from out of town, I think the LNC is easier to get to than an on campus arena.

They didn't have a shuttle when I was a student, but that was 20 years ago.

I'm not sure why it's such a chore to get in a car and drive to the LNC? Doesn't make sense to me. How many students drive to a movie theater? I would bet the movie theater is further away, more expensive to get in, and more expensive to eat or drink something.
