Joe C sounded kinda pissed there at the end

Get offa my lawn, kids!!!!

dammit...back in my day there was construction between us and LNC so you had to trek through an obstacle course to get there.

Over the red dirt hill, through the drainage pipe, across the huge ravine, underneath the barrier wall, and then sprint past the guard dogs!

So kids today should be HAPPY they have it so easy and show up with smiles on their faces!

Absolutely. I would have loved to have had games on campus. Coming in from out of town, I think the LNC is easier to get to than an on campus arena.

IMO, it's not so much about it being easier...it's about the experience and atmosphere getting to that experience.

When I was a student, I don't think I'd have ever headed to Campus Corner before a game. Too out of the way from the dorms.

But that's been 30 years (gulp!), so what do I know?

Non-students, I can see gathering at CC, perhaps, but time's much shorter for most basketball games than football games. If you're heading down from OKC, seems as though you probably won't have time to spend very long on CC before tipoff.

When all these old people were students, they had to walk uphill both ways in the blinding snow for every game just to get to the LNC. You guys are a bunch of troopers, and I tip my hat.

As a frequent visitor to many sporting events at OU, my wife and I REALLY enjoy seeing the campus and the walk to the stadium for football games ALMOST as much as the games themselves. It's just a feel we get. It's like we get to see the money we donate to the university at work. We have a beautiful campus and it's nice to get to see it. Any time we take our kids (they are soon-to-be college students), they LOVE walking on campus and seeing the sights.

yep.

OU has a beautiful campus and this is a great way to show it off...even in the winter.

I really can't believe this is even being argued. Can you? Having an arena right, smack-dab in the middle of the campus would be unbelievable..

Parking-shmarking...

I agree completely. Would love to see an on campus arena. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to call all the students a bunch of wusses for not walking to the games.

they can all park at LNC and take shuttles in to the campus...and we could have OUPD all over the cars to offer really nice security AND it could be a significant improvement to walking in across the lot while the weather is bad.

What would the downside be to having an on campus arena? Especially if it were right next to Memorial Stadium. Kind of hard to make lack of attendance a location issue if it's next to a stadium that is packed with 85,000 fans every Saturday in the Fall.

Last I checked, the LNC was very convenient for the big money folks, yet they still don't come.

How many student tickets do we sell? 3000?

IMO, you sell as many as you can sell before the season starts, then you start offering the unsold student tickets as either single game tickets or season ticket packages. You lower prices to the point the tickets are sold and the arena is full.

Lowering ticket prices will result in lower revenues, but they have other ways to make that up...Maybe they should start charging $1 to park except for donors?

The LNC has been a good enough facility when we had #1 ranked teams, and final 4 contenders. I'm just lost in how it's not good enough now because we had a bad coach who couldn't recruit.

If the product were better on the floor, more seats would have been occupied.

It's just not a great facility for watching basketball, no matter how good or bad the product on the floor is. Simple as that.

Why would you build a new arena when you have the state of the art practice facilities at the old arena?

Not to mention state-of-the-art locker rooms, meeting rooms, coaches offices, etc.

I just re-watched the press conference on soonersports and I failed to see at any point in the production where Joe hinted at building a new arena or remodeling McCasland.

it's not? Why?

I disagree with you. I've seen OU play at the LNC a lot and it's fine. Is it perfect? No. Is any arena perfect? No.

you need the attendance to be there to BOLSTER the team and the season also....not just as a response to it. This is what helps recruiting and makes the home court advantage mean something even in mediocre years.

LNC can stay the practice and office place as well as being used for concerts etc...

The same ting they do for the other 320+ days a year that there isn't a men's or women's game, concerts and other events. LNC is more of an event center than a basketball arena. It always has been.

And, how is a new facility going to bolster attendance?

Somebody please help me understand this.
