John Beilein

Could see that happening, veteran coach similar pedigree to Kruger successful at WV and Michigan and short stint in NBA

Couple of years have it all to do over again, at his age is he ready for the recruiting process?

That is how I feel. He's recruited well enough in the past, but it's been a few years and he hasn't really done it in this part of the country.

I'd just as soon hire Altman if we're going to make this hire.

But if you were going to hire a very young coach, he might be a good mentor to bring in as an assistant.

Beilein, Quannas, Najera, and Slim. That's our new staff.

no way beilein agrees to be an asst......more likely an asst is brought in for him to groom to replace him.
I believe she is saying the same thing you are. Bring in the young coach as an assistant for Beilein so that the young coach is ready to take the reins when Beilein retires

Who is going to agree to come here and work under Beilein, that has already proven to be ready or nearly ready for a HC job? Surely nobody that has been mentioned on this board. I don't even think Q would be down for that. Besides, if they come here and the team doesn't have success, there is NO succession plan.

That's not what I was saying but it probably makes more sense than what I said. :ez-laugh:

Beilein would be a good hire at this point. He would take the program further than Lon and put it on even more solid footing giving Joe time to find a younger coach for the next hire.

As much as I love the thought of Kellen, he doesn't have any HC experience which we really need. JMO

No question JB can coach. Whatever we have on the roster next year, they would probably get the most out of them with JB as coach. I have no doubt that if we hire JB, the team will be prepared to play and not lose game on a strategic level. The question for me is whether or not at this point in his career he has the ability to inject life into the program overall. Can he improve recruiting? Can he lead the charge on some injection of juice or excitement into the fanbase, etc? He’s ten years older than Lon was when Lon took the job.

I like your points. If we had the same roster coming back it might make sense to try to bring the great experience to add to what we have and try to make a deeper run quickly. But looks like we will be completely depleted.

I like the idea of younger and hungrier who can recruit talent, maybe not the great athlete but the very good basketball player, and mold them into a team. Occasionally add a star and you have a dangerous team.

Rolling the dice no matter what we do but with roster now depleted I am for taking our time and getting the right guy for the future but not for tomorrow. There is always the danger of a flop or of losing that guy if he is successful. But if we do have success and he can get butts in seats he can make a lot of money staying at OU with less short term pressure than at a lot of other schools.
