I’m going out on a limb and saying Fears is our best incoming player.Pretty crazy that we're still undefeated and we still have not played ARGUABLY our 2 best incoming players coming into the season. I know we all have trepidation going into the rest of the season which is a gauntlet but this is a major wild card.
Re-read it.I’m going out on a limb and saying Fears is our best incoming player.
I read it correctly the first time. JN is a juco guy and Jones is a low major guy who is thought to be a good three-and-D player. They were viewed as nice pieces but Fears was on the front page of the espn website and on the crawl at the bottom of the screen for a reason. Even coming into the season, Fears was our best incoming player.Re-read it.
Even with Jones and Nwankwo if you don't want to count Fears I think Miles is better than those 2. Miles ended up being a really solid get.
We desperately need them defensively. We’re pretty average right now.
That’s iffy to me..:We desperately need them defensively. We’re pretty average right now.
We haven't settled on rotations as is. Taylor is the only truly reliable guy off the bench. Goodine needs to start making shots again to be a contributor, since his defense is poor and he doesn't provide much else offensively. Luke has jumped Wague because Luke played well in Atlantis and Wague has been a nonfactor, but it's not like Luke is setting the world on fire. And Dayton played one mop-up minute in the final noncon game.Never seen Jeff Nwonkwo play but Jones is a very good all round player. But, I am conflicted on whether to insert them into the rotation. On the one hand, if you redshirt them you don't know you will get them back next year. Of course, if you could know you weren't going to get them back next year, just use them as you need them and get what you can out of them.
On the other hand, we are undefeated and it is a little scary to me to be messing with the rotations, which could also effect team chemistry.
Spot on. There’s room for them to get 10 minutes each right away when they get back. Then, I’d expect atleast one of them to take minutes from Goodine and Forsythe as the conference season progresses. We haven't settled on rotations as is. If we had a nine-man rotation where all four bench guys were really humming, I could see your concern about chemistry and possibly messing up the rotation. But we aren't in that situation. And we also aren't likely to be undefeated much longer, so unless one of them is available tomorrow, that really shouldn't be a factor. I wouldn't suggest immediately putting either of them in the starting lineup by any means, but playing 10-15 minutes off the bench as they work their way into game shape seems like a no-brainer. If they don't play well, you can reduce their minutes, but if they hit the ground running, their PT should increase, especially if, say, Elvis and Goodine struggle against this caliber of competition.
The fact neither guy is listed on the injury report could be a sign they are planning to redshirt. The conference policy says you don’t have to include players who are redshirting, but otherwise, I think every player should be included if they are on the roster but not available or limited for a game.
We have no punch defensively. We need length on the wing badly. That’s on full display today. That’s iffy to me..:
Our 6 toughest opponents. Mich, UL, OSU, zona, prov, Gt.
We’ve given up an avg of 71.6.
We do that most nights in the SEC. we’ll be a top 4 seed in the ncaa tournament.
Now I know we will play a lot tougher schedule. So doing that is a lot tougher.
