Jordan Shepherd reportedly has signed with OU

This commitment is going to be one of the best or worst commitments ever under Kruger. I don't know anything about him but what I do know is that this kid was recruited and taken in a year where the state of Oklahoma had a lot of talented high school seniors that we didn't recruit or offer...long, waters, jolly, Evans, McDowell.

On top of that, this commit takes away an open scholarship for the 2017 class. If John commits, that's it on scholarships.

I'm just baffled.

Someone (s) hitting the door...

Btw, all of those oklahoma players had stuff that didn't let you reach for them. Water's dad was scorned by a late OU offer so the interest wasn't there. Jolly has a coach that's anti ou from them not pursuing other players of his.Long isn't OU'S type of player. McDowell had a shady handler. Finally, Evans grades out as a mid major. If he played his junior year like his senior year his recruitment would have looked different.

Jolly wasn't ever recruited by ou so it has nothing to do with the high school coach. This kid was a mid major up to about 30 minutes ago.

The best thing about this is that it's all going to play out. We will get to see what the kids we didn't recruit do in college, what this kid does in college and the ripple effect it will have on the 2017 recruiting class.

OU loved Tyson. High School Coach was so burnt up about the recruitment of Omega Harris that he wasn't going to let OU in.

That's not what I heard and I'm close to a member of that coaching staff. I asked if ou had a shot with him this second time around and he replied probably not because ou didn't recruit him the first time around.

I like it. Could mean something in regards to other players like Mcgusty, Odomes, or Mangyang, it will come out. But he looks to be a good guard that can shoot.

I don't think it means anything with McGusty and Odomes. McGusty may be able to fill in at the point some, but he's mainly a two-three. Manyang is gone. End of story. What it means to me is that our coaches want Woodard to stay at the two, but they're not too sure about Strong's ability to play the point. He was injured his sophomore season, so it's possible he may not be ready to play when the season tips off. Just a guess on my part.

I like this pick up for the same reasons you do: Shepherd is a good guard who can shoot. I also see him as more than a combo guard who can score, something we can never have enough of on our roster.

To me, it's easy to see why our coaches decided to bring him in to run our offense, much like they did with Isaiah. Cousins started at the one his freshman season, but moved to the two when it didn't work out the way everyone had hoped. He was really good there his senior season. To me, Shepherd appears to be better suited for the one than Cousins at this point of his career. He's more disciplined and he seems to have a better command of his handles and his ability to pass to an open teammate. I could be wrong, but that's what I saw in the videos I watched.

I'm not sure what this means when it comes to signing Trae Young? Maybe nothing. Trae is a true point guard who is good enough not to worry too much about his competition. Besides, I think he and Shepherd could swing to the two if need be.

I don't see this kid at point. I don't see Trae as a full time point either. I think they feel they got a steel. The other thing about it is the remaining assistant is more apt to reach on players where as Lew was more skeptical.

I forgot about Brady Manek, so I guess we only have 1 schollie left for 17.

There will almost assuredly be a transfer after next season. By the end of the year the writing will be on the wall for somebody that minutes just aren't going to be there for them.

Who do you think will (or will be asked to) leave?

They didn't offer, but they loved him.

Waters was recruited but they stopped when OU got Mcgusty

Harris equals baggage.

We've been round and round on jolly.

I think this hurts Strong more than anyone! I feel like we have 2 guard spots that we can play 4 guys in.. Woodards spot will mainly be him playing 32-35 minutes a game! Guys will just have to understand and split time!! Lattin and Woodard are the only guys that should play 30 plus minutes consistently.

Harris is garbage? He averages 12 ppg as a sophomore and he shoots 44% beyond the arc.

Care to explain your garbage comment?

If my child were a college prospect, I would not allow the high school coach to drive the recruiting (of him).

He said baggage not garbage.

I actually thought i typed baggage. Either way, theres always the baggage excuse for the players we don't bring here. The only in state player I've seen with baggage is Clark. Someone was talking about Jolly having baggage to and I don't know if it was coach that said that as well.

Also...looking at Harris stats, he's done decent at UTEP, but he wouldn't have started last year or this year and he's not as good as some of our younger guards (James or Grandstaff). Sure he's a local kid but the coach needs to sign the best players not the best players in his metro area or state.

I think it's also interesting to note Harris sat out the fall semester due to academic issues. If he can't pass at UTEP, he sure won't pass at OU. I think the coaches made the right decision there.
