He is now 4/25(16%) in his last 4 games. At what point do we say "stop shooting in big moments big fella"? I really liked his game last year, he got to the line a TON, but hasn't really showed me much this year. What do you guys think the problem is? I keep seeing him miss open jump shots every game. At some point, he is going to need to make these open shots or the defense will just bait him to shoot it every time and make it harder for Hield and Cousins to get open looks.

I think Woodard really is a decent shooter. He hit like 37% of his 3s last year. I think he wanted to improve that this year, but it's gotten in his head so badly that he's bricking even his twos.. Plus many of his drives get rejected, that hasn't changed. If he could just relax I think he'd be hitting a lot more..

I think you're right, Stikboy. It's a confidence thing with Jordan. It's like he hit the "freshman wall" as a sophomore. He shot a respectable percentage (37%) from three last year. The distance behind the arc hasn't changed since then, so it almost has to be mental or mechanical. My guess is it's mental. All he needs to do is to hit a few shots and get his confidence back. The best place to do that is in practice, and then make himself believe he can do it in a game.

What I don't want to see is him taking the last shot with the shot clock or the game clock running down. His odds of making those shots is not very good right now.

The reason Woodard was somewhat effective last year is because the refs were focusing on hand check fouls, so Woodard benefited from that. Now that they are letting the defensive player play tighter defense so he's not getting to the foul as much and not able to create for himself or others.

Don't think his shot has anything to do with confidence. He was below average last year and now just really really bad. He doesn't have a proper follow through on some of his shots.

I wasn't a Woodard fan last year, and still not. Like his brother, he's not meant to be at a big time D1 program.

He is shooting fewer free throws because there is less space to drive...Spangler/Thomas offer more congestion than Clark/Spangler. Clark rarely went into the lane.

Clark was still in the high post or mid range area. Regardless, playing with two true bigs hasn't been a problem for Walker. He can get to the paint on anyone.

I agree and good analysis - Guys he's shooting 11% on the year from 3 (3-26), That almost defies logic in regards to how bad it is.

I really am hoping Jordan gets it together but this slump is going on 3+ months. Everything about him is tentative right now and if you play like that you'll get 0 calls regardless.

I agree with this... 11% is beyond bad. I bet some clown from the student section could hit a few 3's here and there.

He shot 37% from 3 point range last year. That is not remotely bad. Terry Evans shot 37.11% on his career. Pledger was 36.89%. Hollis Price was 39.19%

Only 51 times have OU players shot better than 37% from 3 point range for a season. Several of the guys on the list above 37% did it more than once so it is not like it is an easy task. There are probably 40 guys or less that have accomplished this.

Something else to consider is that Cam Clark shot 37.31% as a freshman and 43.53% as a senior. As a sophomore he only attempted 18 three point shots converting less than 30% of them. As a junior he only took 1 three point shot (he made it). We don't have to give up on Jordan Woodard just yet.

Woodard made 27 of 73 3 pointers last season which is such a small sample size when you compare it to career averages of guys like Hollis, Price and Pledger all with 615+ attempts. Woodard's 73 attempts last year puts him at a pace for 292 attempts in a 4 year span, his career average is 30/99 = 30%. He's not a good shooter.

You are using an even smaller sample size to conclude he can't shoot.

His stroke isn't great. He has to swish it for it to go in cuz the lack of rotation on his release. He has rimmed and rattled out more than any other player due to this. He needs to work hard in the offseason learning the proper technique/release if he wants to become a real threat.

He doesn't need to shoot another hero shot again. He needs to drive and get fouled or knock down a mid range shot/floater.
