Just for my amusement

Texas wasn't as good during the sampson era as they are now...False. They had their final 4 year during that time. Lets make sure that we don't Blame Capel for them being good. They get 1st picks of the Texas players and the leftovers as well.

OU also had a final four team during that era. OU outperformed Texas in the Big XII during that time period. I can fully understand a Texas fan arguing Texas was better but it is pretty unbelievable that an OU fan would make such a claim. 17-8 pretty much speaks for itself.

It is not an isult to Jeff Capel to say OU outperformed Texas during the Sampson era.

How many big Monday appearances did we have this year? How many CBS appearances did we have?

I live in Kansas City, and this is the first season the local radio stations never even talked about OU even when the local schools were playing us. The game wasn't worth discussing because everybody knew who was going to win before it ever started.

Used to be, the gurus of the local teams (KU, KSU, and Mizzou) would be on as guests when they were about to play OU and it was a major topic of discussion because the game had conference implications and in some cases national implications. Now when one of the teams is to play OU we get one line discussions of the game like "that's a game KU/KSU/Mizzou will win easily". Greg Gurley, the resident KU homer, called us "lowly Oklahoma" a few weeks back. It's sad, but it's true.

PS -- we were the 2nd winningest program in the Big 12 when Capel took over. We have a winning record in every series but KU in the conference and still do, but the numbers are dwindling quick.

I understand that we are a good program, but I also understand that(I'll say it again) we lost warren and that KILLED US last year and that this year our record isn't good b/c we played some tough games.

But honestly, when during the Sampson era did Colorado have a lottery pick..Baylor have the all time leading scorer in big 12 history and a top 3 draft pick along with aTm, Mizzou, and KSU all having a top 25 team and Neb having beat 3 ranked teams all in the same year. Does it suck that we aren't with those teams this year...yes. Do I think that if 2 of our 3 guys would have returned that we would have been right at the top of that league...yes. Is this a rebuilding year...yes. Will we be back next year...yes.

I understand how good of a program OU is but I also understand why we are here at this point. If Capel was to lose next season...then I would be right there with you all b/c I would have expected more. But I'm not going to jump ship the first sign of trouble.

Have you ever heard of Chauncy Billups? He is an NBA All-Star, has won NBA titles and played at CU during the Sampson era. He is probably the best player ever from CU.

Baylor is improved but some of your comments are just silly. Tech was better during the Sampson era. OSU was way, way, way, way better during the Sampson era. ISU was very good around 2000/2001.

You need to stop percieving history as if it only contains the few years you actually experienced. It makes you look young and foolish. This has been a great basketball conference since the early 80s if not longer.

No its not...but People on here want to blame Capel for Texas being good and it has nothing to do with him. KSU is good b/c Huggins came here for a year and brought Beasley, Pullen, and Walker here. Baylors good b/c Drew can recruit...he can't coach or they would be great.

If you look at what I said...I stated that this all happened in one year. I know about Billups and ISU and Tech...but it didn't all happen in the same year.

Next time...read carefully what I said before you run your mouth.

Nobody is blaming Capel for Texas being good. They are simply honestly stating OU was better than Texas when Sampson was the coach. Texas was still a solid program.

Colorado had Jay Humphries in the 80's, Chauncey Billups in the 90's (during the Sampson tenure), Donnie Boyce in the 90's, etc. Sampson still beat them way more than not.

Baylor has had good players. With Dave Bliss, they had Lucas, Roberts, and a few other studs, but Sampson beat them.

Before Huggins/Martin, KSU hadn't been very good since Altman left for Creighton. Mizzou was very good with Norm Stewart and good with Snyder for a few years. In fact, Sampson beat Mizzou 9 straight times from 1998 to 2002.

When Sampson took over in Norman, Nebraska was in a run of 3 or 4 straight NCAA tournaments and in danger of surpassing OU in program status. Sampson beat them 11 of the first 14 times they faced off.

Only Walker out of that group did Huggins bring with him.

Pullen and Beasley were signed after Martin became head coach. They were brought because of the asst coach DeLonte Hill who could have left with Huggins, but chose to stay with Martin.

They were signed but they were planning on attending there b/c of Huggins. Props to Martin for keeping them. Also it helped that Walker enrolled a year early b/c I have feeling that if he wasn't there, it may have turned out differently.

I stated that all this happen this season. I know ISU, TT, OSU, KSU, Bay, etc...has been good and they have had players before...but I was stating the fact that KU, aTm, Tex, KSU, and Mizzou are all ranked. Baylor has a top 3 draft pick and the big 12 all time scorer. Colorado has a good team with a lottery pick on the roster. Neb has beaten 3 ranked teams. OSU has below avg squad.

All this in 1 year. Thats all. Please point out a year that comes close to this one if you dare to prove me wrong.

I don't care who is good, who has been good, who is traditionally good, etc.

All I know is OU should be one of them.

Who is the "lottery pick" from Colorado? I can assure you he is probably the 4th or 5th best CU player in the last 30 years (Billups, Humphries, Boyce, Harrison in that order; does not include Shaun Vandiver and the kid they had a few years back).

What you don't seem to get is some of these teams have stepped forward because OU has stepped back, and that's not changing any time soon with Capel as the head coach.

The conference has more times than not had 5-7 NCAA tourney qualifiers. This year is not an anomaly and has nothing to do with luck. Next year, CU and NU are gone, but ISU will take a step up as well as OSU.

As I see it now, next year the following teams will be more talented than us:
KU, Texas, aTm, Baylor, OSU, ISU, Mizzou, KSU

The only team we may have more talent than is Tech and that's debatable depending on what happens in the late recruiting period. And, if Tech gets BCG, they will at least beat us in Lubbock.

Burks is projected 9th in the draft.

Thats amazing that you continue to tell yourself that teams are good b/c we aren't this year. If telling yourself that makes you sleep better at night...go for it. Middleton, Walkup, Leubau, and Holmes(aTm), Higgins and Burks(Col), Pullen, Kelly, and Samuel(KSU), all but Selby on KU's roster, Mizzou is loaded with Juniors...etcc.....All these players either came in during, before or the year after our elite 8 run...and some how its Capels fault that they are winning.

OSU, ISU, Baylor and KSU more talented....dream on. They all had the chance to be better than us this year and all but KSU could. OSU is losing 3 post players, with no Johnson now, and Sid and Penn are both gone...they will be at the bottom next year. Baylor is losing their big 12 scorer and their lottery pick. KSU is losing Pullen and Kelly...I can't wait to watch them fall and ISU is bringing in a bunch of transfers, they will be better but not much better.

I truly can not wait til next year. Mizzou will be better but they are also returning all but 1 guy. How can you possibly think OSU is going to be more talented than us??? B/c they are bringing in Nash...they are losing Penn, Williams, Johnson, Pilgrim, Sidorakis, and Moses...and you think 1 guy will make them better than us? I have feeling Clark will come in next season and be a lot better than his freshman year. KU will be good...not as good as this year. ISU, more talented huh...I mean talking about jumping ship. KSU without Pullen and Kelly...I can't wait to see how good they are. Baylor couldn't get it done with Dunn and Jones...bring on their next batch.

Isn't this what you are saying in relation to us and the other teams in our conference? That one player, Osby, will make us better than everybody but KU? :ez-laugh:

Me saying all those teams are better than us is not because I think all of them are loaded with talent, it's that we have no talent and our proven best player is graduating.

Most of the Capel supporters claim he can coach but he doesn't have any talent so let him come back and coach that great wealth of talent that will makeup next years team. However, you believe, at least from this thread it seems you believe, that we have talent? So, whats your excuse for our program being in the crapper?

Thats not what I am saying. We don't just have 1 player. Fitzgerald will be 1 of the better low post players in the league. Clark will be much better...maybe an improvement close to Middleton. Pledger and Neal should be better. Add that with Osby, Goff, and Jurick....is the reason we will be back next season. Players get better.

Its not in the crapper. Warren got hurt...right after we beat Tex who was ranked 10th at the time. We went on a losing streak. 3 guys bolted for the NBA and left us with only 3 returning players and now we have to have a rebuilding year. The rebuilding year is over with and next year we can move forward and have a good season.

Correct, but re-phrase to one of the better low post scorers...we will still be terrible on defense and at rebounding..

If we run a 4 guard lineup we have to have our center more athletic
