Just for my amusement

Correct, but re-phrase to one of the better low post scorers...we will still be terrible on defense and at rebounding..

If we run a 4 guard lineup we have to have our center more athletic

He might be a better defender next year...especially if he's guarding the 4.

def agree. or worse depending on how you look at it....he is never very laterally quick just like blair

I think our problem is we have 3 guys in the game that are terrible on defense because of quickness

blair

fitz

thats a terrible defensive team

I hope these kids get better. You can improve your defense.

If Warren was healthy the whole season last year...and we ended up the same record or very close..I would be with you booger and calling for his head. But I do take that into consideration when evaluating him as a coach. I believe we would have been in the tournament last year if he would have been healthy. Would Sampson have won if Brewer got hurt? I also take it to consideration that he didn't lose his top 3 players to transfers...he lost them to the draft or $. If Gallon and TMG transfered...I would have looked at this year totally different but they left for money.

I'm not giving Capel excuses..I'm just pointing out the facts. And I'm not going to jump ship on Capel just b/c he struggled w/o Warren and had to have a rebuilding year.

You could be right...but all 3 are sophmores. I'm not ready to say that they can't play defense....especially since they know that its a major weakness for them.

I bet he goes into each practice saying... "Im not teaching defense today!" I think that will help us win games.

:ez-laugh:

I can remember hearing about Sampson's practices and they would go multiple days without practicing offense. Do you think Capel is the same way?

His teams score fewer points than Sampson's did, so does that mean they are practicing defense? It sure doesn't appear like it.

We have multiple players on this team who can't play defense. Why is that?

Not to break up a good argument, but Colorado is a team JC has beaten more than not...just saying...

1st year...left with no one...did a good job coaching that team. ... this year was pretty good b/c he got his team to play hard every game.

No one = Taylor Griffin, Austin Johnson, Longar Longar, Michael Neal, Nate Carter, David Godbold, Tony Crocker, Keith Clark.

And I can only guess that you didn't see the Texas Tech game.

Or the Chaminade game.

Or the Virginia game.

Shall I go on?

Getting a team to play hard ought to be the default, a given. Only with a program that's sunk as low as ours is it something to celebrate, an achievement that amounts to a "pretty good" year.

May our program never reach the point that I look back at this season and describe it as "pretty good."

I'm starting to think that you don't like people bagging on the players from Capel's first year.

That's a reasonable conclusion on your part.

What I really don't like is revisionist history.

Another poster quoted Kevin Bookout as saying that the 2007 squad would have made the NCAA tourney with Sampson at the helm, and Bookout's word good is enough for me.

Any way you look at it, the cupboard was not bare when Capel arrived. But poster after poster keeps saying it was, so I keep pointing out that it wasn't.

I know. And I respect your crusade.
