Go Cougars!
Hope he goes blue denim!
As part of his coaching staff, Sampson is expected to hire his son, Kellen, sources said. Kellen Sampson spent the past three years as an assistant coach at Appalachian State.
good for him! I hope he does well. I will be interested to see what style he brings.
Funny story. I have a good friend (Bernard Smith) who was recruited hard by OU when Kelvin was there, and ended up signing with Texas. He was the Houston Chronicle player of the year his senior year of HS and was highly recruited. He was a starter at UT his freshman year, but transferred to Houston after Tom Penders was fired. He played at Houston during the Clyde Drexler (Reid Gettys) years, and later played for Ray McCallum (former OU assistant). He told me some good stories about all the coaches he played for.
He told me he most regretted not going to OU and playing for Sampson because OU recruited him the hardest and fit his style of play, but he let some people get in his ear and talk him out of it. I can't wait to ask him what he thinks of the move to hire Sampson.
I think it's a great move by the U of H and Kelvin..... a win/win.
I don't think your timeline is correct about the players at Houston when your friend played. Drexler was at Houston until 83. Kelvin didn't come to OU until 1995.

He's talking about when Drexler was the coach at Houston. He's right.
That explains things. I didn't know Gettys and Drexler coached at Houston. You guys are constantly teaching me things.
I read some comments from Indiana fans and they think it's the most laughable hire of the decade. Their hate for Sampson is larger than any fan base for a former coach.
Gettys didn't coach at Houston as far as I know. If he did then I can see why he didn't last. Dude is dumb. I thought the same as you, the poster was talking about when Drexler and Gettys played together at U of H.
Edit: I stand corrected. He was an asst coach for Drexler.
