Fair enough. I understand what you are saying. I don't think we are far apart here. In a perfect world, there would be no double-standards, but human beings are not capable of utopia. I doubt that humans can even agree what utopia would be.

I hope that we can agree that a racist word or phrase should not be directed at someone of another race, whether in anger or in "jest."

Given that we (as a country) still have a long ways to go on race relations, it is only natural that someone's "hot button" can be pushed by phrases like double-standard. We all have our sensitivities. I can see where you are coming from.

This is no way means that the OU SAE episode and the UK press conference are equally bad. I hope that some good comes from recent episodes like the SAE incident. The punishment received by the frat members was justified, in my opinion. Behavior will never change if there are no consequences.

The embarrassment caused by the UK player's comments, and the resulting apology is sufficient punishment in that case, IMHO.

MsProud, we have seen some things improve during out lifetimes. We (as a country) still have a ways to go.
