Kruger says Szendrei will remain on staff

Was hoping we would bring Darby Rich. Players were tough as nails under him.

Well, we know he will make them work. Wasn't that part of the uproar a couple of years ago with all those nothing-prima donna's?

They didn't want to get up or work out hard, or it was too tough or some such?

I liked Darby Rich a lot, but whoever didn't make TMG et al get up and work ... we don't need them. So whoever that was needs to stay away.

I'm pretty sure that Darby was already gone before TMG and crew made it to campus. Would have liked to seen him brought back as well. I think he filled a gap between the players and the "players coach" where discipline was lacking. Having said that, if LK is ok with YoYo then I am too.

I'll take Yo Yo any day of the week over Rich. Joszef cares more about OU basketball than Rich could ever dream of.

Good move. Glad to hear this as one of Kruger's first decisions here.

Was Rich the guy with the buzz cut?

Yes, the one who ran onto the court and got T'd up. He's also been working with Anthony Kim.

I'd much rather have Yo-yo, especially since he's an ex player and direct tie to another era and players/coaches.

Plus, did you see what he did with :fitz and :pledge ?

I don't ever remember Rich having a buzzcut. The strength coach prior to his arrival did so maybe you are confusing the two. His running out on the court also came during a timeout and was to keep Blake from getting in a fight after a Baylor scrub elbowed him on the floor. He then got in between AJ and a Baylor assistant coach that got a cheap bump on Austin. Both AJ and Capel later voiced their appreciation for his actions.

I am all for LK keeping YoYo if he wants, but your claims about Rich are uneducated at best. If you remember him having a buzzcut I'm not even certain if you know who he is.

:clap :yoyo

I believe he's referring to Scott Kolok.

Players are tough because their coach is tough. Players are in shape because of their S&C coach.

Great retention IMO.

Yep, that is the guy I was thinking of. He was at OU while I was there (late 90's) so I saw him out occasionally. Same haircut as Jerry Schmidt, kind of the same attitude as well.

That was YoYo and this is the main reason I really wasn't wanting him to stay.

In fairness to him, maybe he's learned how to deal with kids like TMG. We need to hope so.

Yoyo may turn out to be a good one but,

Darby was not here when TMG and crew were skipping workouts

I was not a Sampson fan, but Darby trained teams rarely got tired and played intense defense and rebounded well.

Part of this is Capel's issue but Yoyo teams have not played great d and have been awful rebounders.

Darby was also a big reason Taylor stayed and Blake came. Unlike Yoyo Darby was also an assistant coach so he understood and knew how to teach.

Yoyo may in time be good, but he does not have that level of experience that Darby had. Before coming to OU he was an assistant strength coach for the Texas Tech football team. He is learning his craft still.

Those of you saying Darby was not good, you are wrong.

Seriously? You want to put defensive abilities and rebounding numbers on the strength and conditioning coach?
