Late Season Out of Conference Games

These used to be a staple of Tubbs era basketball. Playing the likes if Arizona, UNLV, Kentucky, or Duke to name a few in February or early March......and many times more than one in a year.

I wonder if that was OU driven or CBS driven back in the day? You would think ESPN would still be interested in something like this.
 
I would imagine the hard part is coordinating power conference schedules. In the Big XII, doesn't each team get just one week a season with no weekday games? I don't know if that is the same with the other power conferences, but matching those up would probably be difficult. And I doubt many coaches would want to squeeze in a Thursday night game against a tough opponent when they already had two conference games that week.

I remember OSU played Cincinnati in February once probably 10 years ago and it just felt...wrong. But, that was probably because they lost.

I don't know if anyone does this anymore. I think with the bigger conferences now there are enough good teams to provide the big game of the week and ESPiN is involved in scheduling to make sure these are available all during the season.
