LK expects Buddy to play tomorrow

If Hield is back in the fold at 100 percent by selection time it would help our resume a little, wouldn't it?

They look at your team at the time of selection. No doubt Buddy makes us better.

I went by practice today. I was wanting to to watch Buddy and to see how Spangler and Bennett had progressed over the last few weeks.

Buddy looked fine. He participated in all phases of practice. It looked like he was moving like a kid that mayby had a slight ankle tweak. He did have an extra ankle wrap over his right sock. I don't know that he will start and play 30 min. But, there isn't any reason for him not to play.

I got there about 30 min. early and Spangler was going through individual drills with one of the grad assistants. Post moves, footwork, 12-15 jump shots and that sort of thing. A serious workout well before the start of practice.

As I sat there watching him, it was easy to get the impression that I was seeing what was going to be a darned good college basketball player. He has really improved his skills in the last couple of months.

The same for Bennett. His shot is still alittle flat looking from 15 ft. But, he is coming along nicely.

That's good news. I'm a little worried that we will have a hard time replacing Osby's post production when it comes to scoring especially. Spangler may be an even better rebounder but Osby has been a reliable scorer. Hopefully the new big guy that's coming in can acclimate quickly and become a scoring presence too.

I think Spangler will be a better rebounder than Osby, but OU is really going to have to lean on M'Baye for post scoring.

Enjoyed the report, Gary! It's good to hear that Buddy is healing nicely. His teammates have played quite well in his absence. But he was such an integral part of their success before the injury, I'm sure everyone is happy to see him on the court again. I know I am!

Also good news about Spangler and Bennett's progress. With Romero and Drew gone after this year, they'll need to be ready to play when the season tips off next fall. Judging by what you've seen so far, can either of them step out and hit shots fairly consistently from 15 feet and in? In other words, what kind of range can we expect from each player?

I would be hesitant to say that Spangler will just step right in for Osby. Spangler is a soph. and Osby is a redshirt senior. Osby is alot better right now.

During a 5 on 5 Osby received a pass down low. Spangler took him one one. Osby got a shot off, but, it clanged of the side of the rim. Spangler said to no one in particular and loud enough to hear, "that is how you D up."

I wonder if he'll have some kind of orthotic in his shoe.

It is interesting that you asked that. When he 1st came out he was carrying his right shoe and put it on shortly. But, as he was walking across the edge of the court it looked like he might have something like a plastic insole or something like that. I didn't say anything about it because I couldn't tell for sure.

I believe the way to think about our offense for next season is it is going to be more balanced. Flow and passing, sharing the ball, being unselfish. We may not have one player replace Osbys production but his season is a good lesson for our players moving forward. Be efficient. Limit your steps and make them count. Attack the basket, be aggressive, and get to the line. Ro is so productive in limited min and limited usage. Balance and efficiency. Share the load.
