Surely KU has enough talent to beat North Dakota State? On top of that, surely they have enough talent to score more than 3 points, right?
Yes, they do but they don't have enough talent to play like crap and beat North Dakota State...which they did. It's Gill's first game so I don't blame him...especially since I watched the entire game and saw how bad KU's QB, offensive line and TE play was. The TE literally had the single worse game of any player I've ever seen. He dropped at least 3 passes (one for a TD) and the two he caught he fumbled both on promising drives. I don't know how Gill can be blamed for that. The kicker missed two FG's...one very makeable. And the QB blame was brutal..granted Pick only threw 5 times all last year and it was the first game Webb ever played in but both had happy feet and wouldn't make throws. They were nervous.
The defense actually played well considering how young they are but I always expected Carl Torbush to have them playing above what they should be.
The offense was absolutely brutal though.
1. Mangino left KU with more talent than he inherited.
I disagree. Who is the talent this year? At least Mangino had a good QB in Bill Whitemore. Then he had a much better OL. That's the difference.
In regards to Mangino his first year KU was 2-10 and lost 45-3 to Iowa State in his opener. The talent is very similar with the one exception of the QB and OL play was better under Mangino. Which is key.
2. I personally don't think Mangino would have lost that game.
In the same situation he might have. Not in his 7th or 8th year probably not....but his first game quite possibly. Look at the 45-3 butt whipping to Iowa freakin State.
I personally don't think Turner Gill loses 7 games in a row last year with the type of talent KU had. In fact, I know he wouldn't have. The team wouldn't have quit on him. He has their respect. Mangino had no respect and no control last year.
Utah State will probably go to a bowl game. Not that it really matters because there's like 80 bowl games so everyone makes a Bowl. But Utah State is decent. North Dakota State isn't even any good in the FCS.
Agreed but we're talking OU top 5 in the country vs a bad KU team playing it's first game under a new coach with a new system.
Here's my opinion....KU will be worse than I thought this year. Talent level is horrible and it's the first year in a new system. Gill needs time as I think he's a better recruiter than coach.
OU is overrated once again. Just like last year when they struggled mightily.
I just don't think Landry Jones is that good.
