He could do something positive. I’ve given him credit for cutting welfare. Problem is he has so many negatives, and very few positives.

no no BC, by all means let him pursue this line of reasoning. he's advocating monism a la advaita vedanta. there is no time or space or cause/effect. morality is non-existent as well. malaria is justified in that if we kill enough people it will spur to action a cure. it relies on the natural cycle of all things. that is fine if he wishes to go that route ... because if so then he also accepts utility arguments as well. thus capitalism flies out the window.

you want to say trump's horrid demeanor and inability to relate to the current social climate is moot. that the hate and fear he purposely generates is purely superficial. OK.

so now what is your standard to evaluate? the policies? and how will we be evaluating those? how will we determine whose policies are better? you tell me.

I say this because you're going to eventually resort to a utility argument. And it is at that point that you're going to lose. Because you can ONLY satisfy either hedonism or utility. You cannot maximize one person's benefit without minimizing someone else's. You can say "well this eventually blah blah because..." and all you are doing is moving that loss down a level. Because to have a winner you must always have a loser. This means you will NEVER do better than 50/50. Simple math. Simple physics. Simple logic. And the whole economic competitiveness thing propagates making the bottom number bigger and bigger. Boiling it down further and further to the point of monopoly and aristocracy. Thus you will NEVER win a utility argument. You have to pick and stand behind some standard other than utility if you're not going to measure ethical and moral concepts in addition to existential ones. Otherwise you lose before the argument even begins.

So go ahead and drop morality and ethics and state you're only concerned with policies. Because without those secondary considerations I win no matter what. You will NEVER go over 50% in capitalism and you'll never even get there. Plus it completely denies egalitarianism which makes it contrary to the tenets of the Constitution.
