What was said absolutely matters.
Fans should not have free reign to say whatever they want to players. Shouldn't be allowed to say anything you wouldn't say to their faces if you saw them on the street.
A couple of situations come to mind:
1) Remember when Roy Williams got all bent out of shape when on of his players fell at the north end of the court? I can't remember the exact situation.
2) There was an incident with a Texas player at GIA several years ago. I can't remember the particulars about that, either.
what was said matters in the case of deciding what consequences the fan will face. It has much less to do with marcus smart's consequences.
I'm honestly surprised Smart didn't walk up to the fan and flop backwards

Although I do want to hear Marcus' side of things, I don't think it changes what happens to him or should it... As a leader and a young man in his position you have to be above all that. Think about all the names Jackie Robinson was called (not condoning racism that happened there); but the only reaction he gave was being motivated to play better. At the end of the day, we will never truly know what happened because it will be he said, she said stuff... All we will know is that Marcus Smart went banana's foster and shoved a fan. He should be suspended for at least a couple of games.
Having said that, I'm technically considered a minority (Jewish) and if someone made an anti-semitic remark to me when I was 20....I'm not sure I wouldn't try and deck someone. I'm older now, but I can understand, to a degree, how that would set someone off. Still, you have to understand that when you're a big time athlete....people are going to be ugly to you. You have to try your best and walk away.

I am not sure it should matter with regards to Marcus Smart's punishment, but it should certainly matter with regards to that man's season tickets. I am not sure he should be attending games if the allegations that he called Smart an N-word are true. A human being should know better than that.
banana's foster? what is that?
It's not as though Smart's only options were to attack the guy or just take it. Smart is one of the most visible athletes in college basketball if he had decided to start a discussion about racial abuse in college arenas he would certainly be given a platform to do so.
Fify
Longar hit the guy in the face. The guy had to have surgery to repair his eye socket.
It may be more than he said she said when the smoke clears. There were dozens of fans and players close enough to hear what the guy said, not to mention the baseline official. I, for one, will be anxious to see how this turns out.
One thing is for sure, it overshadowed a great OU win tonight and became the news everyone wants to talk about now.
