Re: MBB Portal Thread 2
I remember posters, A few years ago, say Uwakor was going to be a stud. We he isn't. So I guess we're all entitled to bad take about a player's potential. This may be mine:
Losing Shroeder is bad. Reason 1: Moser went to freaking Europe to get him. And now it's just an absolute waste. And that's not the kid's fault. At least get SOME return on the investment. Play the kid enough to see what he really can do. Maybe he was like Oweh and just needed consistency.
Reason 2: Moser is supposedly "building" using freshman. Well, one just left. Now Moser has to go to the portal to replace him. And Moser's track record with the portal is bad. I actually think he's pretty good at evaluating high school talent. Portal, not so much. I trust that he saw something in Shroeder's game when he recruited him. Why shouldn't you do everything you can to keep him around? And that is most likely playing time.
Reason 3, and the reason that ties it all together: 6'7 guard that plays above the rim... with three years of eligibility left. My goodness. Even if he's not polished, you can't coach that. How badly did OU need length at the guard position this year? Not everyone will agree with me, but I think he should have got more minutes as Oweh got more. I think he would have greatly improved and would be an important part of the team next year. Imagine having Shroder, Uzan, and Oweh, PLUS the incoming freshmen on the same team next year. That would be the athleticism we fans have so desperately wanted for years. Again, he didn't have to be super polished yet. Oweh and Uzan aren't.
I may be wrong on Shroeder. He may end up being a bust. But I honestly would rather have him be OU's bust then watch him tear it up at another school in the next few years.
I think what makes this more painful for a fan like me, is Moser played Noland and Jacob Groves for so long even when it was so obvious they weren't going to cut it this year. I have zero faith that Moser has any clue what he is doing with the roster.
Now, if someone has insider info that can refute anything I said I am more than willing to be completely wrong.
