My top coaching possibilities

I still like the idea of Terry Stotts, a former All-Big 8 forward from OU who did some coaching in the NBA. Is he too far-removed from that NBA career to impress recruits?

I didn't realize he was coaching in Dallas as an assistant. He was the head coach in Atlanta for a time, also.

If the job does come open at OU, I hope if Stotts is interested, that he gets a fair shake. By that, I mean I hope the fact that he played for Dave Bliss at OU isn't a handicap. It shouldn't be - if you knew the guys who played at OU when Stotts was there, they were good guys and pretty much all graduated. I think Bliss ran a clean program at OU; it was just later on that things changed.

Joe C is really going to have to open up the check book to get a big time coach to come here right now.
The program is in serious trouble with a horrible recruiting class this past year and not much of one next year signed IMO.

Marquette basketball program>OU basketball program...better arena and no football.

It shocks me to see an OU fan this. I can see a Marquette fan saying but I don't understand how an OU fan could say such a thing. The OU basketball program (notwithstanding the current situation) is an outstanding program.

Steve Alford
Tim Floyd
Lorenzo Romar
Rex Walters

SA: My friend's dad (an Iowa fan) called him Steve "Can't win a game" Alford. He wasn't popular in Iowa, that's why he left for New Mexico. Plus, look at his tournament history. Awful.

TF: No.

LR: No. His seat is getting warmer each year.

RW: 70-83? No thanks. Not a discernible upgrade from Capel.

And that's what I think is the key: our new coach must be better than Capel. I want him gone as much as anyone, but if we wind up taking another risk on a guy who doesn't pan out, then we're just digging our grave even deeper, only with coaching inconsistency thrown in.

I know it's not a big splash, but I would like to see Terry Evans at least get an interview. He's not at the top of my list, but I feel we could do worse. Outside of the names already mentioned I feel he would be as good a coach as any. Won't happen though...

I think the arguments OU has to sell to Buzz.

We have better weather than Wisconsin.
You like to recruit Texas and Oklahoma kids from up in Wisconisn? Its so much easier to do that in Norman!
Opening up the checkbook, I can only hope we up his pay from Marquette. Tied in with this is promise him if he can get the program back to where it was in 5 years he will get a new arena. Those are some big promises and this is proably why its a great thing I'm not making the calls, but I would pull out all the stops to get Buzz to Oklahoma.

Buzz went to college in Oklahoma City and was born in Texas. Before he went to Marquette the furtherest north job he took was in Colorado and that was only a few years.

All his previous ties are Texas and Oklahoma related, so OU has that benefit.

I agree with that. But not everyone loves Oklahoma weather. Even some that grew up here. Oklahoma summers are brutal.

I do agree with the new arena promise. And he might want to come back this way. Make it happen Joe.

ou is a better job than marquette. on the other hand, smart coaches will always think very carefully about leaving a job where they have been successful.

guess I'm the only one who likes drunken womanizers who win there tails off

I'm all for it as long as they are no longer drunken womanizers.

I keep hearing people say Marshall gets out-coached. That makes me leary.

I'd love to land Buzz, but he'd have to be plum crazy to leave Marquette for OU right now.
