NCAA Tourney the Thread

That’s a fair point, but prior to that, if OU had been cheating in football this century, all I can say is that we were really, really bad at it.

Any notion that OU has cheated in football, especially since Bomargate, is laughable. As has been mentioned ad nauseum, OU compliance self reports such ridiculous items as Gabe Ikard going back for seconds at a salad bar at a bowl game or something like that. OU Compliance has been so anal it's been a detriment.

Not sure how things are now with Venables, but if the compliance situation is anywhere near the same, OU is probably the cleanest program... in the world. Could be why it's taking so long for any NIL program to get off the ground..

💯

Also have heard that Thad turnipseed is here to reign in the compliance department.

That's fair, but we know/think we know that because we follow OU closely. Other fan bases don't know the inner workings of OU's athletic department, and I think there is some truth to the notion that many fans assume that all programs that win at a very high level cheat. I've heard many people say that Saban/Alabama "must" be cheating, for example. And I can't think of a blue blood basketball program that doesn't get the same treatment.

The huge difference (besides Bama winning title after title) is that Alabama gets 5-star player after 5-star player, and finishes in the top 3 in recruiting just about every year. That doesn't mean they cheat, but OU is hardly in that league. I doubt we need to cheat in football to finish #10 in recruiting. If we're accused of cheating, it's from those who obviously do not follow recruiting one bit.

True, although KU actually hasn't landed a ton of 5-stars recently. This year's roster in particular wasn't stocked with a ton of highly ranked guys. I think their recruiting did take a dip for a few years because of the investigation, but they have a very good class coming in. I just hope they get popped and some of them signees bail.

Davis deserves tons of credit for keeping that team together when the season was on the verge of collapse, but the "Carolina way" of not calling timeouts is indefensible. I know 1/100 of the Xs and Os of any good college coach, but I also knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that KU was going to make a huge push to start the second half, and that the game hinged on how well UNC could withstand it. To let them erase the entire lead before using a TO is coaching malpractice. Add to that the fact that UNC lacks depth and had multiple guys who were exhausted, and it is ridiculous that he ended the game with a timeout still on the board.

I loved the Bulls as a kid, and liked the way Phil Jackson would let them play through rough patches. But I loved it because he had the greatest player in history on his team and was coaching pros. In college, it is such a dumb strategy.

I think it was more the way UNC wasn't able to hit shots more than anything. Nothing Kansas did defensively besides turn them over a few times (they had more TO's vs Duke). UNC outrebounded Kansas by 20, and shot more Free Throws than Kansas. UNC hits the shots they hit vs Kansas they win the game easily. Alas, they did not so it is what it is. McCormick wasn't anything special, neither was Agbachi. Remy Martin was the one that ended that game for UNC. That and Bacot's injury.

lol you said McCormick wasn't going to play well vs UNC he had 15 and a double double and shut down Bacot ..

Bacot had 15 and 15. Your definition of "shut down" is a lot different than mine. And I said if Bacot was at least 95%. CLEARLY. He was not. LOL.

Abacghi had 12 points, went 4-9 and shot like crap from the Free Throw line. While Bacot was the player of the Tournament. Sometimes, the NCAA has to do better.

And sometimes, you should just admit you were wrong. The Heels lost the second half by 18 points … I guess in your mind, that means they just weren’t emotionally into it that half, since that is the only way you said they could get blown out.

15 and 15 is a solid line, but 15 pts on 13 shots is not anything to brag about.

3 for 13 you think that is good??

They couldn't hit shots like they did vs Duke. I thought they would. I'll admit I'm wrong, but to say Kansas flat was 10X better is just utter nonsense when they got outrebounded by 20 freaking rebounds and had less free throws than UNC with UNC not going to the line but two times in the 2nd half. I guess I just need to take my L on this. You guys are incorrigible. Bacot doesn't go out for the game at the end. We're not having this discussion right now. UNC wins in my opinion.

And the "depth" of Kansas was basically Martin and that's it on Monday night. The rest of the bench players for Kansas were trash.

Here’s what you continue to miss: none of us said Kansas is 10x better or predicted a KU blowout. We simply pointed out that Kansas had been the better team all season and that they deserved to be the favorite, and that if they did happen to blow UNC out, it wouldn’t be because Carolina was emotionally spent.

kansas is about 10x a better defensive team then duke ..

and lol on Bacot there is a reason he won't be a NBA player

Going into the game a few on here said Kansas was flat out better than UNC. Some even made it seem it wasn't close. So I disagree.

He won't be an NBA player because the NBA has 6'7 and 6'9 Centers. The NBA is ass backwards now. Centers have to shoot the 3 or they won't get drafted. Even the Illinois big man isn't expected to be Drafted and that guy is a stud. And Bacot was the best player in the Tournament. Not even close.
