Need More Talent

Didn't realize this was a morning game time in CA and missed it. Saw the score and that was deprressing?
Outside of maybe K-State who can OU beat the rest of the season?
The offense seems to be stuck in the 1950s mode.

that isn't happening...in manhattan

They are very annoying. I hate losing to anything wearing orange....

They’re a poorly coached team of raw athletes and Bryce Thompson. Really a tournament team if their coach figured out their chemistry.. A Lon Kruger team with enough athlete beats them every day of the week.

Mike Boynton has subbed his way out of about 5 wins this year.

My OSU friends can't stand him....his only claim to fame was hiring Cade Cunningham's brother.

Need to start playing for next year. The three most important players for next season on the current team are Bijan and Groves bros. Should roll out a starting lineup of Goldwire, Bijan, Mo/Harkless, Jacob, and Tanner.

Totally understand the comments that everyone is replaceable, but OU might not get anyone better in the portal. What does OU have to offer at the moment to a potential player in the portal? Not much. The team needs internal development and it needs to start with the players that aren't seniors.

If we have to offer them money, then we should do it. NIL our way to a better roster. Everyone else around us is doing it. We should too. Find the talent by whatever means necessary.

I would also say, osu is terrible and has been bad for a while. We’ve lost 4 in a row to that terrible team. This is the bottom.

Trying to get a team together when we lost so much was gonna be rough. I think a lot of people here thought going in that this team would have so much more offensive talent than they have.

I keep seeing comments like this. We aren't the only team that had a coaching change and subsequent Portal action. That is the new norm in college football and basketball. Moser got most of his immediate transfer targets. Those guys haven't been the biggest issue, IMO. It's been the returning guys.

Gibson - Shooting his worst percentage from 3 in his career, when I honestly thought the Moser offense would get him MORE open looks.

Harkless - Hot and cold, but dude is a turnover machine. In his last 7 games, he's had an 8 and 7 turnover game. That is insane.

Hill - Shooting it worse from three than last year. His two point percentage is really good, but almost none of it comes from him creating for himself, but rather the offense getting him easy looks.

Those guys were all on the team last year, and IMO, they've been bigger "issues" than T. Groves or Chargois. Goldwire and his 27% three point shooting belongs on the list as well, but again, that is a guy Moser targeted early and hard in the transfer process.

None of our players individually are terrible, but the offensive ability for the entire team just isn't there. Maybe you can hide one bad shooter, but you can't hide 3 or 4 on the court at the same time. The Groves brothers aren't going anywhere. Hill probably isn't going anywhere. It's time to move on from Harkless and Gibson, and to go find a couple of starters from the Portal after the season.

This team also needs to live in the weight room. T. Groves needs to get A LOT stronger. Noland needs to lose some weight. Several guys need to work on speed and athleticism.

Good article from the Athletic on what opposing coaches are saying about your team. Here is a big 12 coach's take on OU, pretty spot on if you ask me:

Oklahoma. “I think overall the league has taken a toll on them. They’re capable of beating you if you let them run their stuff, but they don’t have as many playmakers as they need. Tanner Groves is an old-school power forward playing center. He has a nice touch, but he’s not mobile. One thing I think Porter (Moser) is realizing is that this league is really athletic. As skilled as they might be, not having great athleticism on their front line is a major issue. They may be the least athletic team in our league. Jordan Goldwire is a table-setter, but you’ve got to have guys to set the table for. It’s easier to do that at Duke. Umoja Gibson is small. You just gotta keep your hand up on his shooting shoulder and run him off the line. If he makes six 2-point shots you clap, because he can make eight 3s if you let him.”

Agree Allday ----- Perfect assessment of this team in my opinion.

I Moser's coaching and am not down at all about our future. Like the thread is captioned, we need more talent. Better athletes with better offensive skills.

Also agree with WT. Good assessment in my opinion. Hopefully this year is an "eye opener" for the kids coming back and puts their off season into overdrive.

And finally, I hope Coach is correct, and we pick up a couple good portal additions after the spring semester. For me, the most pressing need is on the wing. We need a couple good athletes that can score. Wouldn't frown on a athletic big that can score either. I like cortes and uzan at the point and think we will be OK at that position.

Agree with alot of this wt. Going off Loyola teams and Mosers mentor majerus I am disappointed at our lack of toughness and ability to take care of the ball.

Idk if id call the team skilled either necessarily..

I think sometimes the players just dont take to a new system/mentality. I think they may be too used to a wide open system from the former regime. Imo new blood is just what the team needs largely and pf course, more talent (i think the 2 new recruits are perfect and well see with the foreign player)

But we have just three players from the previous regime (four if you count Rick). It's not as though the rest of the guys are thriving and those three players are holding the team back.

Fair point. But still, the rest are transfers from other regimes too.

I feared we may have had a hard time building continuity with this many new players, that may be playing in to some of this or at least players not knowing their roles on the team. My point is that this team IMO should not reflect too much, if at all, on Porter

I think it's fair to say that, for whatever reason, Coach Moser hasn't gotten the most out of this team. I would hope that we see significant improvement next year -- not that I expect us to compete for the conference title or anything, but more consistent scoring, better rebounding and many fewer turnovers would seem to be reasonable and attainable goals.

Can't read?

Northwest Florida State point guard Brennen Rigsby is starting to bring in high majors offers and interests. Rigsby has recently brought in new offers from Oregon and Wichita State and is receiving interest from Oklahoma.

This kid is listed at 6’ 3” to 6” 4” (depends on the website). His best offers at the moment are Oregon and WSU. OU hasn’t offered yet. But if I’m any judge at all in skill and athleticism, that will change soon.

This web site features him in several highlight videos. He’s obviously a superb athlete, better IMO than any player on our current roster. Reminds me of Alondes Williams, a player we lost from last year’s roster. I read that Rigsby’s got a 41” vertical, and after watching a couple of his videos I have no reason not to believe it.

We need a true center and then you can move Tanner to the 4. Need wings that can actually score. The wing play was the biggest reason I said this is an NIT team at best.
