Need More Talent

I think it's fair to say that, for whatever reason, Coach Moser hasn't gotten the most out of this team. I would hope that we see significant improvement next year -- not that I expect us to compete for the conference title or anything, but more consistent scoring, better rebounding and many fewer turnovers would seem to be reasonable and attainable goals.

Moser has gotten about all he can out of this roster. It is a bottom 2-3 roster in the conference, and that is where they are in the standings.

I don't agree. We're playing significantly worse right now than we were the first half of the season. Even over the course of conference play, we've regressed, not improved.

There's no reason this team should have so many turnovers. There's no reason they should be so bad at rebounding (we've been up and down in this regard, but when we're down, it's been disastrous).

We need a true center and then you can move Tanner to the 4. Need wings that can actually score. The wing play was the biggest reason I said this is an NIT team at best.

tanner has no ability to play the 4 on D in modern college basketball ..

i agree

last week's 2 games (and at tcu ) were bad performances ... all 3 of those were very winnable games if OU had just played OK ..

give OU 2 of those .. .and they are in great shape to make the Dance ..

One of the few teams that I just want to watch them play defense. Seriously I'll fast forward on offense & on the rare occasion I see the score change I'll rewind it back & see what happened.

Turnovers are very much something that can be minimized even on a team lacking talent compared to the rest of the conference. I think it’s safe to say that if we turned the ball over at even an average rate, we would have at least a couple more wins and be on very solid footing to make the tournament. That, and his failure to control Harkless, are what disappoint me most about his coaching this season. Someone has to play point guard, and both Goldwire and Cortes are turnover prone this year, so we are somewhat stuck there. But there is no excuse for letting a terrible ball handler who plays on the wing repeatedly kill us with his handle and decision making.

That’s what happens when u play in this conference. We always look better in the 1st half of the season for obvious reasons.

Agree the turnovers are bad but we have mediocre ball handling and are lacking time/cohesion in Moser’s system. We have a couple bad losses in Utah state and butler. We have some quality wins in Arkansas, Florida, @wvu. No other losses are bad.

We don’t match up athletically with any team in this league other than kstate/wvu. Even osu has way more athleticism. We have no length whatsoever. This team can play better but it is likely only a game or 2 better in the win column.

Most of the teams we play are made up of two fours and three guards or wings. True fives are rare these days. So, we have no choice but to play Tanner at the four. Do you see any other option?

1-3-1 zone... Harkless at the top of the key... Hill/Jacob/Goldwire in the middle... Tanner at the rim.

I’m a bigger fan of a zone than most. I see it as a good way to hide weak or poor defenders.

But this team has not been nearly as good at any type of defense lately. They simply cannot sustain their energy level for the best part of forty minutes. I think we all knew this OU team would have to steal a few games with their defense, because it’s highly unlikely they would do it with what has to be one of the weakest offenses we have seen in years.

If Tanner is not scoring and Mo is not making shots from three, there is not much left to bring a smile to our faces. Porter has got to find a way to generate more offense from the other players! Harkless is capable—that is when he’s not playing the role of a turnover machine.

Tanner can’t guard 5s, for less 4s. Had a great scoring game against OSU, but gave up about 30 points on the defensive end.

Cisse, who’s a bum had a Big12 high of 12. Boone who seems to be in the doghouse for off the court issues, was revived to throw in 12 points in limited minutes. Groves struggles with mobility and for him to work, you need super athletes around him.

and yet was still net positive for the game ..

Surely there is a way to disguise Groves somewhere in the defense.

Just got caught up on the conversation. My take:

Need more athletes yes, need better shooting yes. Biggest issues I've seen is Harkless and up and down play.. really had high expectations for him. Thought he could have been a 14ppg guy.

Goldwire just can't shoot at all. I'd lean towards giving Cortes more minutes because it's his job next year or the incoming freshman.

Jalen Hill started the season off great.. First 10 games great. Guy has completely lost in the last 6-8 games. He's shooting the ball poorly, but the main concern is he isn't even attempting to shoot it anymore. The guy needs to be on the wing, open up a spot on roster for a true 4/5. Bishop(texas) would be a great type of player to add. Let Hill run the court, shoot open shots and play defense from the wing spot. We get longer/more athletic by doing this.

Gibson is not the issue in my mind. The guy I think is actually are second best player behind Groves at the moment. He tries hard(just small) great shooter that is having to handle the ball more and attempt more 2pt shots which is hurting his 3pt pct.. but I think he may be a top 2-3 shooter in the big 12.

Next season: Hope would be add a big that can take Hill's starting spot. I'd like Harkless or Gibson to come back if not them add a nice transfer wing.
PG - Cortes or FR
SG - Noland - Transfer
SF - Hill - Transfer or Harkless
PF - Transfer
C - Groves
