Newell Left Team: Confirmed via Shinn/Emig

Re: Newell Left Team??

Reason #93 this site is awesome...a poster read something on a "premium" site and rushes here to get the scoop/confirm.

Keep up the good work boys.

Haha. True story. Nobody is even close to as good as the guys here when it comes to OU Basketball.

Re: Newell Left Team??

It is TRUE. NO Longer with the team.

Re: Newell Left Team??

It's true. Norman Transcript's John Shinn just tweeted this:

OU coach Lon Kruger confirmed Thursday that sophomore guard Calvin Newell will transfer at the end of the semester.

That's quite the kick in the nuts for this team/season. Wow.

Re: Newell Left Team??

This is such a beating. I really thought he was about to turn the corner and become a star. I feel bad for him and the team. Maybe he will have a change of heart.

Calvin Newell, so instrumental in OU's 4-1 start, has left the #Sooners for personal reasons. Man. Program can't catch a break.

Re: Newell Left Team??

I feel like I just had to take a shower with Jerry Sandusky. ****.

Re: Newell Left Team??

are you ****ing kidding me

Sigh, I love college sports passionately, but it's always frustrating remembering you're dealing with 20 year olds who are prone to idiotic decisions. "Personal reasons" just reeks of problems with a girl back home.

Philly boy obviously wanted to get back on the east coast. Another risk of recruiting out of the region.

Good luck Calvin. I bet he lands at a bigtime program.

shut up man. You don't know this kid. Stop spraying **** on a message board. You don't more about this team than a man in the moon.

Wasn't it due to personal reasons? I don't blame him if so.

Regardless, like everyone else has said it's a huge blow. This definitely impedes the amount of strides the team was going to make this season. Sucks.

I'm with T_Neal's Twitter, you don't know **** on the situation, TNT and I and a few other posters know Calvin personally and he loved OU, it was his only family he had, in his words. I trust Cal, if he says he has personal issues and he has to transfer, then there is a pretty darn good reason why he's leaving at this moment in time. Before you trash a "20 year old, prone to idiotic decisions", make sure you know all the facts...

I can just see you so riled up and frothing at the mouth that you can't even type coherent insults. "You don't more about this team than a man in the moon?" What?

Anyway, this is coming from someone, who as a 19 year old, made an idiotic decision to transfer colleges. Kids that age are prone to making decisions without their long term interests clearly in focus. We have had 3 football players leave the team this season, two of whom decided their reasons for leaving weren't very good since they both subsequently asked back onto the team.

That, or maybe because his mom and grandma passed away recently?

It's a saying. It's been said before. Get around more often.

Several posters on this board know calvin personally. "that reeks of girl problems back home" was an idiotic comment. Absolutely idiotic.

This is a major blow to the program. I swear if it were not for bad luck, OU would have no luck when it comes to basketball since the completion of the 1990 season. Just think:

1990 - Jackie Jones, Smokey McCovery and Damon Patterson don't make grades (and according to rumor it was due to an internal OU standard imposed due to problems with the football team and may have been the reason Tubbs left)

1992ish - Bryan Sallier injured going into post season play

1994 - Tubbs shocks OU fans by resigning to take TCU job

1995 - Team is out of gas and gets upset by Manhatten (perhaps not bad luck but I feel entitled to a big list today)

1996ish - Bobby Joe Evans has a major knee problem forcing him to quit playing basketball

1998ish - Humphreys (an Oklahoma kid) transfers to play SF only to PF at Notre Dame

2001 - JR Raymond dismissed from team going into post season

2002 - Q. White injured right before final four

Bookout injurs shoulder (can't remember when this happened, team has about 6 guys by the end of the year)

2004ish - Lavendar and McKensie leave team before what probably would have been a great year

2005ish Phonegate begins, Sampson leaves

OU signs a great class, Sampson leaves, Reynolds and James don't come to OU

Blake Griffin has a freak injury in Austin causing a concussion, misses two games and OU draws North Carolina in the Elite 8.

WW - apparently a head case that is uncontrollable after Blake Griffin Leaves

Tiny Gallon and TMG - how does OU get two guys this good with a bad attitudes at the same time?

Two of the worst years ever at OU.

Now Calvin Newell leaves the team when he is playing and one of the top scorers.

We need some freaking breaks.

I think God should implant springs into Fitzgeralds' legs or otherwise intervene with a miracle.
