Next head coach Porter Moser

I wonder how Big 12 fans would have reacted if Joe C. had hired Kellen Sampson. I'm reasonably confident they wouldn't have panicked.

I have never suggested they would/should. Right?

Did you read the post I responded to?

We know how OU fans here reacted to the hiring of Beard. Are UT fans reacting the same way about Moser? Stop being a drama queen and trying to make stuff mean more than it does. I have yet to see fans of any Big 12 teams overly concerned with OU's hire. Doesn't mean squat, other than fans of other Big 12 teams aren't outwardly reacting like this is some program changer. That's it. That's the post.

Almost everyone except you and 3 other posters (including experts) think it’s a great hire.

I've talked to several and they're in disbelief we pulled it off. They thought he would go to somewhere like Indiana. Of the listed candidates, this was the most feared hire.

Reading all the commentary is making me warm up to this hire. The more I learn about Moser the more I like him!

Loyola is promoting Drew Valentine to head coach, so obviously he won’t be coming to OU with Moser.

not surprised. i think he is going to be a very good coach, and an excellent recruiter.

Great hire. Very pleased. Without Lon, and Joe, we don't get Porter.

Yeah, I don’t know how to feel about this hire. I think Moser is a fine basketball mind, but I don’t know what kind of recruiter he is and he’s about to take a big step up in terms of competition. I may get destroyed for this, but I won’t be surprised if he’s dismissed after 3-4 seasons.

One thing I didn’t realize is Moser has a few Oklahoma ties from his playing days and coaching under Tony Barone. One of the guys he coached at A&M is a big OU fan whose dad played at OU. Another guy he played with at Creighton lives in Edmond, has kids playing in OKC, etc.

He came in with eyes wide open, I’m sure. He will also have plenty of advice on what OU needs, etc, from people he trusts.

I think there are very very few 100% home run hires that have 0 chance of failure

Kruger was one of those

I think this is a good hire that could turn out to be great

I feel the same way I did when he hired LK, not overjoyed but absolutely OK. I do think his style is what we need; I like his attention to fundamentals. I am concerned about the state of the program and whether he is the right guy to amp it up.

Regardless, I am crossing my fingers and wish him the best of luck. He deserves time and patience with what he is likely going to inherit.

All good information that should eliminate some of the anxiety regarding his ability to recruit to OU.

So, you’re saying he may not be contacting the experts on this board for advice? ;)

Don't act like you haven't flip flopped a few times on this topic. If at the end of the day you want to fall in line 100% and sing his praises, that's cool.

He is our coach now. I'll support him until he gives me a reason not to, and I certainly hope he is able to have more success at OU than I currently picture him having. Stop acting like I have to be 100% on board with this guy because that is what you or others think.

Is it safe to say you would have only been happy with kelvin or someone from kelvin’s current staff?

No doubt I still have concerns but to act like it’s a naia asst and Joe c went cheap is weak.

“Our” coach?
