Next head coach Porter Moser

The more I know about coach Moser, the more there is to like. He wasn’t my first choice, but that doesn’t mean he’s a nobody. He built a dead program into a consistent winner and conference champ. A final four coach. I love His charisma and attitude. I’m not gonna lie, hearing an OU basketball coach talk about wanting to win a national championship gets me a bit aroused. LOL.

I have some concerns about recruiting and him adjusting to Big12 play. However, he’s done more than enough to earn our respect up to this point. We should all support him and the program as best we can. He’s our coach. Show up to the games and get involved.

Is it safe to say you would have only been happy with kelvin or someone from kelvin’s current staff?

You really should actually read my posts.

I never, EVER, though Kelvin was an option. Matter of fact, I've said several times that there is no way Joe C. could justify a) rehiring a coach that got us put on probation, and b) paying UH the $12M buy out Kelvin has on his contract.

So to be clear on Kelvin, that was NEVER an option for me. You'd know that if you actually read my posts.

Next, no, I wouldn't have "only been happy with somebody from his current staff." From day 1 I said Kellen might not even come here. The Sampson family has a damn good thing going in Houston. So I'm still not sure he'd have even been all that interested even if OU was. I listed some names I'd have been interested in. Honestly, I think it's a bad year to be in the coaching market. I think Moser has limited upside at OU. That is the biggest thing I, personally, wanted.

No doubt I still have concerns but to act like it’s a naia asst and Joe c went cheap is weak.

“Our” coach?

Please show me MY WORDS where I said anything like that? I'm on record as saying I expect Moser to produce about how Lon did, when it's all said and done. That isn't NAIA Asst or cheap. You making stuff up is what is weak.

And yes, "our" coach. I'm a Sooner, and he now coaches the Sooners. Questions?

I share concerns about recruiting, that’s why I’m watching who his assistants are. He appears to have a great and charismatic personality. We’ll see. It would be nice if he lived in the top 100 a little more often than Lon and if he does, watch out. I’ve heard his offense disparaged some and I guess it could be negatively recruited but I looked at some of Loyola’s scores and they seem to be about like OU’s. He’s the guy OU chose so I’m excited about him. Since the decision’s been made I really don’t see the need to continue to b**** but this is a message board and that is exactly what it’s for if one so chooses.

He chose to be a Sooner, let’s get behind this guy.

The more that I've read about the guy, the more pleased I am with the hire. Initially, I wasn't crazy about his offensive system, but he seems clever enough that he will be able to adapt to this conference.

And most importantly, is he bringing Sister Jean with him?

No, but they are lifelong friends, and she will be cheering for OU as long as they don't play Loyola. At least that's what he said in an interview.

The main name you mentioned was Mike Anderson, which there’s a whole separate thread where 99% of posters on here disagree with your assessment of how good he’d be.

Also, Mike Anderson’s an interesting argument considering some of your biggest complaints against Moser is his age. You’ve made several posts talking about him being 51 and that being later than what you’d like (you mentioned Kelvin, Capel, etc and their ages when they were hired), yet Mike Anderson is 61 years old.

LOL, again, you are wrong. I didn't really even mention Anderson, in so much as I simply commented in that thread that I'd prefer him over some others. I listed other names in one of the many threads. Guys I think/thought have higher upside.

I really didn't want Anderson either, just preferred him to a few other options. He wasn't on my "list" though.

I think he’s got you confused with ABD. Your first choice was Kellen, not right away but later.

True. The rest of my list was guys like Musselman, Cronin, and Donovan (a lot of smoke that he wants out of the NBA). None of those were slam dunks to be interested, but you don't know if you don't ask.

I wasn't really interested in the USC coach. I had some interest in Oats. Ohh, some interest in a Baylor assistant (Tang or Jakus).

And I was on record as saying I preferred McCasland to Moser, but I might be changing my mind on that one. I was never overly high on McCasland, BUT did like that he was new enough to this coaching game that I thought he had considerable room to grow/improve as a coach.

So if Matt is asking who I would have been happy with, that might have been realistic, I'd say Kellen, Tank, Jakus, Musselman, Cronin, and Donovan off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others too whose names simply have not come up.
