Nick Thompson - When did he last play?

Bottom line is that for whatever reason Nick Thompson doesn't put in the effort needed to play defense at this level. Help defense/rotational defense is all about effort and communication and Thompson wasn't getting it done.

What's odd was that during the offseason the players felt strongly enough about his work ethic and leadership to make him a captain. What gives?

My thoughts as well, weird. We don't have the full story here, something is up.

Maybe they saw this picture:

and cowered.

Then they figured other teams would do the same, so why not make him the captain.

Just a guess. :ez-laugh:

Mizzou's style wore us out in that game. You also need to remember, Capel hasn't developed much depth this year, partly because he doesn't have it, but 5 guys (Davis, Fitz, Blair, Clark, and Pledger) have played the lions share of the minutes. Washington and Newell are probably next but I'd bet their total minutes are about half of any of the other 5 at this point. A team like Mizzou is going to wear us out like that.

We played good defense vs Nebraska, KSU and OSU for the most part.

Sampson got a 4 seed to the NCAA Tournament with a similar lineup (in number of players).

That says something about this team.

I'm not ready to write Thompson off just yet. It seems like he could come in next year and be a solid role player for us. He works on things and critiques his effort, he could play next season. He's not lanky, but he needs to find out if he wants to be a guard or a post. He can shoot it. If he plays defense and works hard...who knows. I just don't see a kid that I am going to write off. Hardrick, yes...Thompson, not yet.
