By the way....compare Buzz's record and Billy Donovan's the last three years:

2007–2008 Florida 24–12 8–8 4th (East) NIT Semifinals
2008–2009 Florida 25–11 9–7 3rd (East) NIT Quarterfinals
2009–2010 Florida 21–13 9–7 4th (East) NCAA 1st Round

total - 70-36

conference - 26-22; 1 NCAA tourney trip and 2 NIT trips

2008–2009 Marquette 25–10 12–6 5th NCAA Second Round
2009–2010 Marquette 22-12 11-7 5th NCAA First Round
2010–2011 Marquette 22-14 9-9 T-9th NCAA Sweet Sixteen

total - 69-36

conference - 32-22; 3 NCAA tourney trips


by the way....Buzz coaches in a much tougher basketball conference in case you didn't realize....and Billy D. followed up 2 National Championships with two NIT tourney trips.


Maybe we should pay even MORE for Billy D, right?
 
It's clear Joe C as to hire a coach who has never lost an NCAA tournament game.
 
Funny thing is that the last couple of years many of the same goofballs were saying that Billy donovon can't win without anthony grant.

BCG (who MANY of you wanted to hire first and foremost) lost FOURTEEN games the last year he coached in KY....FOURTEEN....OMG we shouldn't have considered him either!!!!! He lost THIRTEEN the year before that....and didn't win 20 games. Some of the stuff posted on here is so far fetched and not thought out it is laughable.

That wasn't my point. Here's the point(s)....

A) Williams has 4 years experience and in the last three years, his teams have gotten worse record-wise. From 24-9 to 22-12 to 22-15, from 12-6 to 11-7 to 9-9...His team got a little hot at the end (keywords "a little") and limped into the tourney...beat two decent teams and his "buzz" went through the roof. BUT are we to forget the rest of this year or his career because of his hype?

B) No one thinks that OU is set to hire a big name like Roy Williams or Coach K....I think reasonable fans care about fiscal responsibility and throwing $2 million at a rather undeserving coach isn't fiscally smart. We'll see if Joe buys hype or substance.

Umm, is Billy Donovan not the coach of Florida this year? Because whoever is coaching this team has a record of 29-7 and is in the Elite 8. His record over the last 3 years is 75-31.

green....what do you want? do you want to win 20 games a year and go to the tourney (make the Sweet 16)? Or would you rather go 14-17 and watch everyone else who is playing?

OU isn't going to get Roy Williams, Bill Self, Billy Donovan or very many other big names. I have seen a lot of good candidates posted on here and a lot that are WAYYYYY out there. There is not a candidate out there that will win 30 games every year and never lose.....you want to hire someone who will be consistently competitive, keep the program clean, recruit well and recruit good citizens and make your program respectful. You hope you are lucky enough to get to a Final Four here and there and HOPEFULLY have a chance to win a title at some point. Whoever is hired has a lot of work cut out for them no matter WHO it is....but Buzz probably fits better than the majority of AVAILABLE candidates.
 
Marquette has also scored about 40 points in the half. Still about 4 minutes to go.

Joe C's left butt cheek starting to itch again. I heard if they lose by 15 instead of 35 the 3.8M buyout is back in effect.

Dem....my bad.....I just cut and pasted the previous three years on Florida. But, the point is still similar. 70-36 or 75-31.....still not a huge difference....and Buzz STILL coaches in a tougher league.

And, on top of all that, Donovan makes something like 3.5 a year and it's a joke to even mention him in this whole discussion.
