I'm not on the fire Capel bandwagon yet. Look, does this suck? Absolutely. I've personally invested a lot of time and effort into Oklahoma basketball during the past six plus years. I think the program deserves better. It sickens me to watch us become doormats.

But c'mon. What did you people expect? I didn't hear anybody saying this during the four game conference winning streak (besides jerry). Sam made a great post during that streak that I have bumped several times warning posters to not get too high and not get too low this year.

How many of you predicted us to win five or more conference games after the Chaminade loss? (We are beating little brother on senior night. book it.) Judging by the polls and posts during that time...not many.

I wanted this team to play as a team, compete, stay out of trouble, and play hard on defense, and for the most part during this conference season, I feel like they have. Obviously what happened in Lubbock wasn't the case, but I don't think many of you can deny that this team has played hard this season. I didn't feel this way last year.

Capel should get another year. He's got Osby. He's got Goff (who for whatever reason many of you can't understand that he is coming in here next year to be a valuable defensive post player option). I betcha he lands a point guard and another big. I also bet that the fellas work extremely hard this offseason (led by Osby).

This is Capel's mess, but we knew that coming into this season. He knew it. You knew it. Joe knew it. Its all about next year. Make it to the dance or I'll be the guy leading the charge for his head using my red wig as torch fuel....

Thanks for your time.

You make some good points. However, I still say that there is a lot riding on bedlam. I guess maybe I could handle a close competitive loss, but if a mediocre osu team comes into the LNC and beats us by 10+ I think Capel needs to go. No, I didn't think this team would be very good. However after seeing what they could do during the 4 game winning streak there is no reason we should lose to Nebraska at home and then get drilled by 30 in Lubbock. We are facing two straight seasons that ended with absolutely horrendous losing streaks. This program is better than that. It just is.

I'm hearing quite a bit of chatter that Goff won't make it next year because he's not going to class.

Besides, who he has signed to this point should have little bearing on whether he is retained. As should the "we may lose players" excuse I hear tossed about quite a bit.

The late season collapse has happened now 3 of his 5 years he's coached in Norman, and 4 of the 5 years he had a losing record in his final 5 regular season games with 3 of those going 0-5 (if he loses Saturday).

I'm ready for OU basketball to be competing for Big 12 championships and advancing to postseason play with a chance to win it all. We won't do that with Jeff Capel from what I've seen.

Yes sir. No one called for Capel's head when Blake was here, either, but that is kind of the point. Circumstances change.

Honestly I go back and forth depending on the time of the day, for many of the reasons Big Time laid out, but if we lose the next two games I don't see how anyone could credibly argue that it is clearly the wrong decision to fire Capel. He would have earned it. The "records" he has racked up at Oklahoma are almost impossible to wrap your head around.

If for some reason Goff doesn't make it in we'll get to hear about how it was a big loss and another death nail to Capel. Despite the fact that over the last couple of weeks we've heard many here say he's the second coming of Nick Thompson.

Makes sense.

Anyways, I agree with Bigtime, Capel gets next season to prove his worth.

You won't hear it from me, but I'm not the one that's been pumping him up to be the next big juco star.

However, I will agree it will hurt because we need bodies and if Goff doesn't make it, we will probably see someone signed who can't beat Thompson in a game of 1-on-1.

Nah, this is just bull---- at this point. BT you were there to see our wonderful 50 person student section (although it was a loud 50 :D ) when the #2 team in the country was in town. If that doesn't prove there's a ridiculous amount of apathy around this program IDK what will. And yeah we got our 4 conference wins but I don't think anyone can say we've improved this season; we just got drilled by one of the 3 worst teams in the B12 in front of family & friends in Lubbock. At this point I'd take a new coach just to inject some life into the program. JMO.

I will say that my thoughts could change if we lay another egg on Saturday but I just don't see that happening. Other things that could change my mind would be if somebody gets in trouble with the law or if we lose Goff.

As of right now though, I'm still on the Capel bandwagon for next season.

I will still support him if Joe C. decides to retain him for next season.

I think we can get a better player than Goff. We'ld be better off trying to get the 2 in state kids than him. There has to be a lot better post player out there than Goff. He's basically a backup on his JUCO team.

Name some. I want big Phil (along with Goff). Goff is athletic, fast, built, and a legit 6'9. He will be a great addition to this team as a guy who can defend the post, run the floor, and finish with authority.

I've yet to see a single substantive report that intimates Goff is having academic issues, until I do, I will assume he is not.

He's averaging 9 points 6 rebounds in JUCO. That's about what Nick Thompson averaged.

I believe Goff just got honorable mention All-Jayhawk conference yesterday.

BigTime I appreciate your loyalty to Capel, but I have to disagree. Just so much that he does wrong I think we need to go a different direction. You are right I didn't change during the 4 game win streak because I anticipated what we are seeing now.

But c'mon. What did you people expect?

I expect OU to be good at basketball, period. OU ended with a 9 game losing streak last year and might do it again this year. This tells me that we are not good at basketball, thus, do not meet my expectations.

I expect to not have the worst stretch of basketball at this school in 60 years.

I expect to be picking OU in my NCAA Tournament brackets....

I expect the rest of the league to hate us for our tough, physical play and because we win.

I expect more than 3-4 players on the team to be actual D-1 players.

Maybe my expectations are too high?

I wanted this team to play as a team, compete, stay out of trouble, and play hard on defense, and for the most part during this conference season, I feel like they have.

Trying hard is not good enough... nobody goes to OU basketball games to watch people try hard and lose. Trying hard is good and all, but at the end of the day, doesnt matter unless you win.

He's got Goff (who for whatever reason many of you can't understand that he is coming in here next year to be a valuable defensive post player option).

Goff, like Thompson, is the 5th best player on this junior college team.

Capel should get another year. He's got Osby.

The next coach will have Osby too... he already burned his redshirt.

If OU sucks 3 seasons in a row it could tank the program.. They are in position to get a better coach AND staff (staff is important here, OU's is awful) and still have Osby and Clark.

Isnt that better than just hoping Capel pans out?

Thanks for your time.

Tip of the hat to you, for loyalty.

What I hang most at Jeff's feet is talent evaluation. I mean guys like Nick Thonmpson, Omar Leary, and several other juco as well as HS kids who just don't seem to be much beyond practice/support players. I think Jeff can coach just fine and for the most part has gotten a lot out of what he has this year - the Lubbock debacle nothwithstanding. Goff seems like a different version of Nick Thompson. These are single figure scoring average guys in juco where the defense and the defenders are not what they are going to be in the Big 12.

I am glad I don't have to make the decision about Jeff's future. I have come to the conclusion that he probably won't survive what has transpired. Nevertheless, I am under no illusion that simply deep sixing him will make things all better. One good thing though in basketball - it only takes a couple of players to drastically change your fortunes if you can coach them. And, unlike others, I do not question Jeff's ability to coach his team.
