Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

Man, this could be a VERY, VERY long season. Same crap, different toilet, in terms of lousy defense. They will have to follow the football teams M.O. and outscore everyone. Problem is, they don't have a Baker Mayfield on their roster. Yes, it is the first game, and OU won, but it only gets tougher from here.

In a game like this the 2nd level players are going to get their minutes, so there's really not an excuse to back off and not show some effort on defense.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

they just can't win with some of you. if they win big it's because they should and if they dont it's "same crap, different toilet". why bother watching if all it does is make you complain?

How about - they need to work on closing out on perimeter defense but they seem to have some good team chemistry. Trey is still looking to open up his shot but he was making good use of his other talents on the floor. Jordan Shepherd looked very good as did McNeace. Some interesting combos on the floor including shepherd with Trey and CJ.

I like the 2 PG lineup. Wonder if McGusty gets the short end of the stick for the guards here

I did too. I thought Shepherd looked excellent out there period. He and McNeace both looked ahead of the curve. Going forward it will be interesting to see when that lineup emerges.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

Amazing depth without counting Doolittle. Lon has to love this!

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

I thought the team looked solid..defense was shaky. It's the first game...relax.

Mcneace looks like a beast.
Shepherd was really good.
Trae looked like he had some nerves.
Brady was a great pickup.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

Would have liked to see better perimeter defense and less penetration by Omaha b

At times I would have rather seen better shot selection but we still scored over 100 points

but

I think about what would have happened if Young had hit the outside shot as well as he usually does.

I think about how well Young and Shepherd ran the offense and the great assists they made. If they keep doing that we won't lose those close games down the stretch.

I think about the overall game by McNease and the shooting by Freemen

and the overall play by Manek

and the number of players we have that can compete at this level

Would like to see more contribution by Odomes. He and McGusty both have more to contribute and I think they will

At this stage I am not looking for a finished product and only the bad things I see. Couldn't enjoy the game with that mentality.

Kruger always does a lot of experimentation at this point in the season. That will always lead to some rough play.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

We absolutely have work to do on defense, but we could play Omaha ten more times and they likely wouldn't hit threes like that again.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

Mcgusty is going to play a lot.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

Way to early to say one way or the other, but they should win more games this year than last. Lon seems to have enough players to do what every he wants once it's decided who gonna play defense and who is not. I don't know how many games this team will win..but from the looks 17-21 wins would be my pick

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

Obviously, this is going to be a really good offensive team on most nights. From a defensive perspective, I decided to set the bar very low as far as expectations. There is no sense in getting worked up over an aspect of this team that is likely going to be a weakness for a while. I just hope they can improve that side of the court to a point where when we have an off-night shooting, then we still have a legitimate chance of winning against good teams. But I also realize is ain't gonna happen overnight.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

Missed the game, and haven't been around much lately, so can somebody fill me in on what's happening with McGusty? I know a lot can change over an offseason, but he was hands-down our best player last year.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

Defense has a LONG way to go. Man, oh man.

But I do think it's tasty we scored 108 points and only hit eight triples. Love the pace. Nine different dudes scores eight points or more.

Re: >>>>>Oklahoma vs. Omaha Gameday Thread<<<<<

Play slow and grind like KS. People @itch and complain...

Play fast and give the other team more possessions and give up more and score 108 People @itch and complain...

Go root for someone else if you hate it that bad. This team and future teams are going to be good. Get on or get off. Your choice!

I've been giving this a lot of thought. I think it stems mainly from tribalism. They take such offense to it because it feels like a reflection on them since they identify as "OU fans". If someone isn't offended as such then they aren't "good fans" like themselves.

The good thing is once you get older you start to see the folly of it all. It's just a game and it's supposed to entertain. If you're not entertained then you should be doing something else like reading a book or reading a book or possibly reading a book. And if all that fails you could, make that should, read a book.

This team is going to be fun to watch but it will be frustrating at times.

How they develop defensively is the key.

Pace was not the reason for bad defense.

And better teams won't allow us to play that way and be as successful. Our D has to get better. But we've been saying that for a while now.
