Open Letter to AdaSooner and Mods

I could only watch the first half, though I recorded the whole game, and when I got home just a few minutes ago, eager to watch the second half and read all about the game here, I was amazed at how few celebratory threads there were. A road win over a top 10 team after a rough patch of a few games, and us still projected to be a one seed, doesn't spark excitement? Man.

It's really disappointing how many of our fans only show up to complain, but never have nice word to say after a big win. Beating a top 10 team on the road would have been a dream just a few seasons ago. It's amazing what Kruger has done. It's also amazing what our fans have had to say about him this season...

was at a wedding...actually watched the replay. THANK the good Lord...cause that 9-0 run by wv after the ridiculous T on Spand would have sent me over the edge...lol. Must easier to watch knowing we won.:woot

While there are a lot of ridiculous over the top posts after a loss, people need to remember that there are good fans here that are only posting their concerns. Many fans are very passionate and want OU to be at the top. As we know not everything is sunshine all the time, and there are also many here that make ridiculous posts exaggerating how great OU is. As we all know, it's never as bad as it seems, and also never as great.. But i agree there needs to be more good posts after the wins. I didn't give us a snowball's chance yesterday and I am so proud of the team. Those are the kinds of games that make the team so much fun to follow...

The negativity easily supersedes the "sunshine" pumping from the OU fanbase. Just look at the game thread...12 pages. If OU loses it is easily 20+ pages.

Everything went well yesterday. I watched the women win on ESPN3 at Kansas. Then, I watched the end of the men's game. Then, I followed the softball team on livestats as they beat Western Michigan and New Mexico State. It was a good day.

Ah, but those 12 pages are filled with over-the-top, relentless negativity at a ratio of at least 4-1 (and probably worse). A group of posters did nothing but blast the individual players or the team at large throughout; you'd have thought we trailed from start to finish and lost by twenty. One or two did find a way to give the team something of a pat on the back at game's end, but their praise, following a 14-point road win over a top 10 team, was noticeably faint compared to the white-hot criticisms they spewed throughout the game.

And at least one of the most critical, who lambasted the team throughout the game, said not a positive word as the game wound down, nor as he, that I've seen, posted a word of praise in any other thread since.

I simply can't fathom experiencing a huge win by the team I follow in such a fashion.

I couldn't imagine living in a world filled with so much anger and negativity. Being a pessimist has to be grinding.

Do I get frustrated with the team and individual players from time to time? Of course. But the big picture has been so fun this season, why not enjoy it?

This team has a legit shot of winning the title. Unfortunately, they could also throw out a stink bomb in the 2nd round, but regardless this season will have been enjoyable.

I have not yet looked at the game thread. I think I will now, as you have triggered my curiosity.

I will add that, since making the above post, I've seen one positive comment from the poster I said had gone silent after the win.

I just couldn't live that way. Some people feed off it and can't be any other way. Sad.

There is an old saying about the glass being half empty, or half full. My guess is that this saying originated long before the creation of the sport of basketball. In real life outside the message boards, I have learned that I will never understand the "logic" and "thinking" of some people, and they will never understand mine. I no longer try, as the solution to this quandary is beyond my capabilities to comprehend.

that's well said but no longer trying ? ;)

I think whining about negative posts is sooo weak. They hurt your feelings or what? Ha

The mods around here do a tremendous job. I wish they'd go to the lash a little more, but they are an understanding group.

You just have to know your audience and what they're trying to do.

You'll rarely, if ever, see Vinny78 after a win.
WTSooner will stir the pot.
Traveler is ever the optimist.
I'm never around after a loss, usually on a bender.

You don't want a place to be blindingly one-sided, but you get a good feel for who is a moron and who is just passionate. Long-time observation and limited posting is always a plus. :)

Just remember: Tis better to post in the game thread, and be glanced over, than to start a new topic and be forever branded a yahoo.
