Big 12 looks strong

OSU over 11 Memphis
Iowa State over 7 Michigan
Kansas over 5 Duke

Just caught the last 4 or 5 minutes of the game and immediately noticed almost all osu starters, including Smart, still in the game with a 30 point lead. Really?

Who cares. If Ford thinks the best way to prepare his team is to play the starters most of the game, I have zero problem with it.

In the 1989 NCAA Tournament, we beat Louisiana Tech in the 2nd round by a score of 124-81. We got to 124 when Mookie Blaylock made a shot at the buzzer. This is the stuff Billy Tubbs did for years...so as a fan base we really can't say much about Ford playing his starters with a huge lead.

The best all-time Pokes team in my lifetime was their 2004 squad. They weren't a deep team, but they had a great starting 5...I'm worried this team might actually be better...but I hope not.

What's the statute of limitations on that? Just how long are we to pay penance for Billy's behavior? Twenty-five years is apparently not long enough -- how about thirty? Forty? Fifty?

I'm 55 now, so I might not live long enough to be allowed to accuse another team of running up the score, but if you could give us the all-clear signal when it's allowed again, it'd be appreciated.

I think Nash is completely overrated as a player. If Osby can't make an NBA roster, there's NO WAY IN HELL that Nash makes a roster. He looks like an average player out there. Ever since Smart has joined the team, Nash has basically become irrelevant.

Osby is and was a better player than Nash. Nash will never sniff the NBA.

Get used to it. This is college basketball, not football, against a top 15 nationally ranked team with the "best backcourt in the nation". It was a game against a team that could get hot from outside at any time and could score points in a hurry at the free throw line with the new rules. OSU tried to spread it out and run clock but Memphis kept picking up players full court and running the floor (which was somewhat effective in cutting a 30 point deficit to a 21 point loss). Memphis even avoided touching the ball on inbounds in an attempt to lengthen the game at one point late in the 2nd half. If the other team keeps pressing the issue with their top ten, why shouldn't OSU? Don't like it? Get better or put in the walkons.

Hell, ask Lon Kruger if he wishes he could have increased his 20 point lead with 7 minutes left at Texas last year.

Please. Against the 11th ranked team in the nation? I'd suggest grow a pair, but at 55, I guess you should just be content with what you have. I'd be thrilled for any Big 12 team to beat the hell out of a ranked team.

C'mon Skyvue...it's not about "statute of limitations". Our fans' attitude (not everyone, but certainly the majority) about Billy was that we appreciated his candor and often quote him in regards to running up the score. If other teams didn't like it, his famous line was "then get BETTER." Our fan base as a whole seemed to embrace that concept. Me, personally? I HATED it when he did stuff like that...but if we start ragging on other coaches who are doing EXACTLY what Billy would have done (which so many seemed to enjoy), it would be hypocritical to say the least.

Of course, I'm sure there are more than just a few OSU fans who whined like little babies when Billy ran up the score who have no problems with Travis Ford doing the same...that would be hypocritical as well.

Bite your tongue, little aggie. My wife is 24 years younger than me (that makes her, what, 20 years older than you?), and it was she who proposed to me (and believe me, it wasn't for my money), so any suggestions that I'm over the hill just make you look even more foolish than you typically do.

I didn't much like that stuff from Billy, either, but it has been 25 years. Even those who loved it were awfully young at the time and might view things a little differently today. Heck, plenty of posters here were either not alive during Billy's Reign of Terror or were mere tots, so really, Billy's practices don't (and arguably shouldn't) impact their view of the game today.

Me, if given the (admittedly fanciful) opportunity to swap Coach Kruger for Billy in his prime (I guess a time machine would be involved in this transaction), I think I'd pass. I like Lon's personal style better.

I tend to agree with you but I question the Forte minutes. I did not get to watch the game, but in the earlier games he seemed to play alot and played well. He only got 4 minutes last night. If he was not injured, would you not have gotten him some playing time up 20? And wasn't Forte the leading scorer going into last nights game, its not like he can not play.

They said at the beginning of the broadcast he had flu like symptoms. They played him a little in the first half, and he just looked winded/tired. Once he's better, his minutes should return to normal.

No problem with what Ford did. Memphis left in their top players so why risk a comeback by playing your bottom players and walkons. If Pastner made a switch to his bench and stopped pressing and Ford still left in his starters then I would disagree with that, but that was not the case.

Did not watch the game...but if Memphis kept their main rotation in, Ford has every right to keep his. The losing coach is in charge of waving the flag and getting the dogs called off, not the team that is ahead. If this was 7th grade girls bball, different story.
