OU vs. Arkansas Statistical Plus/Minus

There we go! The team stepped up this time! Five, count'em, FIVE players had positive impacts today. Crocker, TMG, WW, Ryan Wright (!), and Cade Davis. Excellent. Now if only the team could all play well at once... this would be a team to be reckoned with!

Last game, Cade Davis was dominant. This game, he spent much of his effort hounding Rotnei Clarke (who still did very well... second best player on the court!), but still played a solid game statistically. Well done indeed.

Tony Crocker had a ridiculous game. 16 rebounds from a guard? That's...unusual. Plus, he had a block, steal, 2 AST's, and only 1 turnover. The whole team had only 12 turnovers, which was a nice change.

TMG makes his first appearance near the top of the list. This was his first truly excellent game.... primarily because he finally limited his turnovers and actually got a steal.

Willie played solidly, though he did have 4 TO's. Not bad, though; he didn't miss a shot. He needs to learn to play a controlled, team-oriented game rather than taking over and getting in trouble. This was a step toward that goal.

Wait... is that Ryan Wright with the good game? He played a very efficient 12 minutes.

Pledger, for once, didn't have a very good game, but that's okay. We know he is a solid player.

Kudos to Rotnei Clarke for the excellently played game, even in defeat. He couldn't get too many shots off, but he distributed the ball well and didn't turn it over. An excellent player, even when the defense decides to take him away. Jemal Farmer also played a good, clean game for Arkansas.

Here are the totals through 7 games, with the minutes per game listed:
OU Statistical +/- Seven Game Totals
Code:
Name SPM	Min	Contribution
Willie Warren 5.0	27.3	24.1
Cade Davis 4.5	24.1	18.9
Tony Crocker 2.7	31.9	15.2
Steven Pledger 3.3	25.3	14.7
Kyle Hardrick -5.6	0.3	-0.3
T.J. Franklin -8.1	0.7	-1.0
Ray Willis -6.0	1.9	-2.0
Beau Gerber -58.7	0.3	-2.9
Andrew Fitzgerald	-2.5	10.7	-4.8
Ryan Wright -2.2	14.9	-5.8
Tiny Gallon -1.4	25.6	-6.5
Orlando Allen -7.3	5.7	-7.3
Tommy Mason-Griffin	-3.7	31.6	-20.3

OU has 4 solid players; unfortunately, they are all guards. Well, then play them all together!

Statistical Plus/Minus (SPM) is a method of estimating each player's impact from the box score statistics. SPM is listed in points above the average player playing per 40 minutes--so if that player was replaced by an average player for 40 minutes, SPM is the difference in the final margin. The total of all player's contributions will sum to the actual scoring margin (each team's total will equal half of the overall margin). The original method was outlined by Dan Rosenbaum at 82games.com; recently additional factors were added by Neil Paine at Basketball-Reference.com. I previously compiled the complete 2008-2009 NCAA numbers on this forum.

I think you'll see TMG come out of the hole pretty quickly. He played his best game so far last night and seemed to be much more comfortable on the court.

I agree. When I broke down the tape, he really stood out!

Thanks, DSMok!
