Ou Baylor

I agree....I think you have to take that shot 100% of the time. I don't think there was enough time to get another quality look. I can see an argument for Harmon taking it to the hole on that last possession, but IMO you go for the win when you're playing #1 on the road.

As a side note, Reaves seems to contort his body too often when in the act of shooting....whether he is driving or shooting some 3s. I think an immediate improvement for him could be just spotting up or coming to a jump-stop.

Weird shot on that last one for sure. He ended tumbling out of bounds past the baseline. Guess he was either anticipating contact or trying to get a call. I wish we would have stroked it like the one before that.

My favorite play of the night was when the students started to yell “air ball” when Manek caught it. But he had already stroked in a 3 and all the came out was “air.....”.

Ugh woke up frustrated but encouraged. I wish we had a game sooner than Saturday. I need a palate cleanser.

Guys I am not a Reaves fan, he thinks to much of himself. Last night he was two of 15 and he thinks he is Pistol Pete. Reaves in my opinion needs to be on the bench, I know that shooters have slumps but Reaves has been in one all season time to change.

And you start?

Who they other team wont have to defend very much and things clog in the paint for Doolittle and Manek's defender doesnt have to help at all.

I’m not opposed to the idea but who do you start? Hill?

He def took too many on several occasions this year but I’m not sure there’s a better option. Also, had that shot gone in this convo doesn’t exist. It’s just such a fine line. Which is why I love the college game.

He's our 3rd best player and its not close. Guys struggle. It wont be all year... (some of us hope, some do, sadly)

I'll take an uncontested shot to beat the #1 team on the road in the game's final seconds, I don't care who takes it.

It was a great look that I'll take every time.

Nice effort on the road.

Setting aside the larger discussion of how poorly Reaves is playing, it seems crazy that the last shot is being debated. A wide open corner three in that situation is a great look. I have no idea why he drifted like he did...he had enough space to set his feet and go straight up. But to suggest he should pass up that shot with 8 seconds left is bizarre. Baylor is great defensively and even if you think Brady would have had a great look, giving their defense an extra couple seconds to get back would have been a mistake.

Alright, here is a pic of the event... Harmon was in the middle of the lane with a 6'3'' guard backpedaling. I still think you have a 90% chance of getting fouled in that situation... But he passed it out to Reaves for the win, which isn't a bad play.

The second Reaves touches the ball 3 guys close in on him. With 8 seconds left on the clock he had the following options.

A.) Try a bounce pass to Doolittle for a dunk (which you can see is available)
B.) Kick it over to Harmon who likely kicks it over to Manek
C.) See if he can get it to Manek at the top of the key, but given the traffic around him seems unlikely. He would have to go to Harmon first, then to Manek.
D.) Shoot the ball

To me this is the critical moment... You have our best "driver" of the ball, Harmon, with a guy in a high-pressure situation dead to rights... and Harmon takes it horizontal to prep the pass to Harmon.

Just go straight at the rim and bare minimum, its a foul. That dude is backpedaling against a guy who is really fast with the ball.

Reaves was likely screaming at Harmon to pass it because he's a damn ball hog

Those stills give a good look at just how open Manek was at the top of the key.

I'm ok with this argument that Harmon could've went to the goal. However, point guards are going to make that pass 9/10 times. I still don't get how anyone could say Reaves shouldn't have taken that shot.

Still shots don't do justice to how fast D1 athletes can close ground and recover. In the time it takes to make a pass, defenders can cover a lot of ground. How many times do we see college bigs catch a pass in position for what seems like an easy dunk or layup, only to have it swatted or contested by the time they gather?

There was basically one guy who got close enough to Reaves to contest. At this level of ball, that absolutely is an open look. I wouldn't have minded Harmon attacking, but it's not a given that he scores over a bigger man, and it's a huge assumption to believe a foul call is automatic with the game on the line on the road against a top ranked team.

Agree. Its the right call to take that shot. It wasnt Polla out there shooting it.

I haven't been on the board much recently, but I wanted to respond to the multiple posts pointing out that Manek was "open". Everyone needs to count the Baylor players in that frame....there are 4. There was a defender trailing the play that came up behind Manek if the video is played foward. If the ball is swung to Manek via two passes that defender is there to either steal the ball or potentially block Manek's shot.

And IMO, the stills show how open Reaves was. Yes, a Baylor player is shown closing out but as you can see that defender really isn't that close to Reaves, at least not enough to actually affect the shot. That is a quality shot.

The only argument that I feel that holds water is Harmon taking the ball to the rim there instead of passing out to an open shooter. Both would have been quality plays.

Bingo /

I'm in the camp that this was the right pass to the right player. Reaves did fire up and miss a bunch of poorly-thought-out shots last night, but he did hit a huge three just moments earlier.

Reaves was open in the corner and his shot came close to going in. If it had, it mostly likely would have been the game winner and we'd all be celebrating the kid. I may be one of only a handful of Sooner fans that feel badly for him.
