OU would place him in PAC 12 territory away from their backyard?

Idk maybe he wanted to get away from home for a bit and they thought a year in prep is better than 4 in another university. Definitely going to see better competition.

I still see more negatives than positives this has for OU's chances.

He needed to get away for a bit. Needs to grow some on and off the court. We'll see how this plays out.
