OU vs Mizzou..... 6pm tonight

No joke. I’d take Reaves any day over Isaiah.

Right now its close but Austin can shoot himself into the NBA, sort of like Buddy. I would hope there is an effort to get him more catch and shoot shots as the season progresses, just 3 or 4 more a game. He is having to work too hard right now.

no, it's not close. There exists a world of difference between Reaves' offensive abilities and Cousins'. I won't even go so far as to say Cousins' defense is that much better although I would give him the nod there. Reaves >> Cousins.

You guys are nuts. Cousins was the best defender on that Final 4 team by mile and his shooting was just a itch under Buddy’s. Reeves has proven to be a capable scorer, but not a great shooter. Cousins ball handling and passing was also above Reeves.

This is a massive gas of collective recency bias, especially with such a small sample size. Of course some posters were declaring Harmon a pro player after one game. I guess it’s just the reactionary nature of this board.

Ironic use of recency bias given the fact that you are judging Reave's shooting based on a seven-game sample rather than a 70-game sample. In any event, the statement made that triggered this discussion was that Cousins was a much better athlete. Discussions about passing and ball handling have nothing to do with that. It's sad that people are now using this to knock one guy or the other. Cousins is one of my favorite players. The fact I think Reaves is in the same class as an athlete isn't an indictment of Isaiah as much as it is a recognition that Austin is also a great athlete even though some will always view him as just a shooter because he is a scrawny white dude.

Very strange turn. A month or two ago, many were saying Reaves was just a shooter. Then he comes out and shoots 31.6% from 3, and now all of a sudden he could be a star player on a Final 4 team. I'll take Cousins, a proven winner.

HUH?

If he was an itch under buddy he’d be on a NBA roster.

I stopped reading after you wrote that.

Again, why has this morphed into a debate on who the better player is? That has NOTHING to do with what started the discussion.

you can take cousins, whom I liked just fine, and I will take reaves and my team will do better. cousins was inconsistent and couldnt get his own shot the way reaves can. reaves is eons above cousins offensively.

Uhhh...here's the original comment:

Is Austin Reaves a NBA guy? He is athletic, can shoot, drive to the basket, defend, dribble. Seems like height might be his biggest obstacle. He's better than Cousins was and Cousins had a cup of coffee in the NBA.

Both Cousins and Reaves played different positions and were asked to do somewhat different things on different types of teams. For me it's not the easiest of comparisons to try and draw a conclusion from as far as who was "better".

I think they are both really good, but a more fair comparison will be Reaves next year vs. Cousins senior year (i.e. Cousins really improved over his career in different aspects and let's see if Reaves can continue to get better along the same lines).

Yep. It will be a liability but we can still get better there. Manek struggled and it was asking a lot of him to not help. Good switch to Doo and more help later. But I also thought Mizzou made a mistake by not continuing to post and feed their big when Doo was on him. They often had him setting high screens and not ever getting back in a good post position.

Kuath had also spelled earlier but we lost offense when that happened plus he still needs to work on helping without completely coming off his man. When he didn’t get the block the Mizzou big was there for easy follows.

Yup....100% correct

Cousins was the #2 player, top defender, primary ballhandler, and shot 40% from 3 for a Final Four team. And you think Reaves is better at winning games? All the evidence is on Cousins' side, and it's not even close.

Buddy shot 45% from 3 his senior year, Cousins shot 41%. I believe Cousins was 2nd or 3rd in the country in 3 point shooting his senior season. So, since you’ve now been educated on the subject you can go back and read the rest of the post if you’d like.

Didn’t mean to hijack the thread, but I standby that Reaves now vs Cousins senior year isn’t that close. However, Reaves still has time.

Wouldn’t it be easier to play with Buddy?

AR has another year.

Stand by what I said. Reaves over cousins.

You mean playing alongside the NPOY might help a guy out? Surely people wouldn’t overlook that aspect, would they? :) They also had another thing that this team sorely lacks; a rock solid rebounding/put back guy down low.

This is as apples/oranges as I’ve seen in a while.

I enjoy them both. Just my opinion.

I’ll ask Lon at the next practice I’m at.

I'm surprised all the diehard Quannas fans didn't jump to Cousins' defense.

Quannas is pretty underrated on these boards. He was a very good player.
