OU Women's Softball thread

It's crazy we won that series considering how bad we hit . Saying that we could have won in two minus a miracle snag by auburn .

I believe her next 2 recruiting classes are more highly regarded than this year's FR class was.

This year's freshman class was rated #1. Romero and Knighten were both in the top ten, and Finney wasn't far behind. Aviu was top fifty. It was enough to make this, by far, the highest rated class.

The incoming class has been rated #4. Lopez was rated as the #1 recruit until arm problems set her down for a while. She dropped to #9. But, those issues have apparently healed. Olmos is a highly-regarded pitcher as well. Mendes is an all-around athlete. Dalton and Taukeiaho have good potential as hitters. But, I don't know that there is a Knighten or Romero among them.

There are outstanding prospects committed to OU all the way through 2020.

Just curious. Which schools had the highest rated 2016 recruiting classes?

You might ask that of Speedy or someone who still subscribes to FloSoftball. I quit reading it when it became subscription only (about $15/month, I think). They are the ones doing the rankings and keeping up with the long-term commitments of all schools. Occasionally, someone will post a part of a story.

Games – especially big games – are most often won with great pitching and defense. OU had the better of Auburn in both categories. The series would have been a bloodbath if the Sooners' hitting hadn't cooled off so much.

I agree and although Auburn has good pitching, I think the bats were feeling a little pressure and probably emotionally gassed at the end.

Good stuff, Syb. Thanks for the update! I'm a big OU women's softball fan. I just don't follow recruiting in the off season with the same enthusiasm I demonstrate for men's basketball.

One thing I think we can all be sure of. This OU team is going to be really good in the years ahead.

Me too! But I'm a bigger fan of the OU men's softball team... JK man!

BTW, I just saw some of the Auburn team getting on the bus to go home. The Jade girl and the coach. They were signing autographs and talking with fans. Made me remember they aren't just softball opponents but human too. They played a heck of a series

I liked that our young players expressed joy and appreciation of the moment, but didn't seem stunned or even surprised at what they'd accomplished. I love a quietly confident team that believes in itself, and the Sooners clearly did.

I thought I read somewhere the incoming class was #1 and this year's FR were top 5. I might have had them switched now that I think of it. Regardless, great things in store for this program.

The Sooners captured the program’s third national title Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over Auburn in game three of the 2016 Women's College World Series Championship Series.

Fans will hear from head coach Patty Gasso and members of the team, while a fireworks show and autographs will follow the event. National championship merchandise will be available for sale, and the first 1,000 fans will receive a commemorative photo.

Patty recruits 5 stars and then develops them. Her son obviously did a great job also . Maybe Lon's son will have similar impact.
