I suspect Parker was completely out of gas yesterday. I suspect Patty might have used her as a reliever if she thought she could go a couple of innings and if we had the lead. That wasn't the situation so it made more sense to let her rest.

Look at it this way - if you are in a winner take all situation, you want Parker as rested as possible to give yourself the best chance to win.

I think Paige would have headed in to pitch had we ever regained the lead in the last couple of innings. However, if we'd started Paige last night and lost, tonight would have been all over but the crying. It's going to be tough tonight but if our defense improves and Paige is a little more rested, we'll have a fighting chance.

If Shay Knighten would have gotten that 2 run homer in the top of the 6th, you would have seen Paige in to close out the game.

The problem wasn't pitching after the second inning , it's was hitting . Like the above poster said , I think they would have Brought her in to close it out .......IF We had gotten a lead . Why bring her in when we haven't scored in 6 innings ???

I'd have brought her in once we took the big lead. I firmly believe she'd have pitched well enough to protect the lead. (Did she surrender seven runs in any game this season? I don't know the answer, but I'm guessing she didn't.)

And I would certainly have brought her in once the score was 7-5. Let your ace nail down the win (and the title) while she can. There's no guarantee we'll ever get the lead tonight.

It certainly worked out and I couldn't be happier about it! But even Coach Gasso questioned in tonight's postgame whether it was the right move. We'll never know what would have happened if Parker had entered the game last night with that big lead (or had even started).

Doesn't matter now. The Sooners got 'er done and are national champs!

I am certainly nothing more than a casual fan, but that was a great performance. It seems more often than not these games are decided by defense, as there are a lot of errors on average in a softball game. But this team's defense was incredible, which is obviously backed up by the fact that they finished with the 2nd best fielding percentage of all time.


This team has to be a prohibitive favorite to win the title the next couple of years. Gasso really has it rolling.

I couldn't believe Knighton was a freshman, both from her physical apperance and the way she carried herself. She's obviously going to be a special one.

Winning tonight's game, and playing such a sound game, showed tremendous intestinal fortitude. I was incredibly nervous for them. Obviously much more nervous than they exhibited out there on the diamond.

I agree on all points. Our defense is really what won the game. Auburn melted in the pressure and their defense lost the game. That double play to end inning 3 or 4 when Auburn loaded the bases with no outs was awesome.

Knighten, Romero and Parker are going to be a load for the rest of college softball to deal with over the next 3-4 years. I hear they also have 2 great pitchers coming in the next 2 years, in fact in 2 years they get a girl from Texas who is supposed to be the best since Cat Osterman. That's pretty dang good. Patty could reel off a UCONN womens basketball type run right here, you never know.

Hear hear! I expressed concern last night that this young team would have trouble bouncing back from last night's heartbreaking loss, but I'm delighted to have been proven wrong. They played like seniors out there tonight.

That was as strong of a game I've seen Paige throw in the past month. She had good control and breezed through the last few innings. It was an amazing performance under immense pressure.
