OU Women's Softball thread

OU takes care of those Bayou Bengals, setting a school record with its 30th straight win! Monday will bring another feast of tiger meat, as the Sooners battle Auburn for the championship.

Go get two more wins, Sooners!

7-3 OU. This team will be playing for the national championship, baby! That's quite an accomplishment for a young team with only two seniors in the starting lineup. Tonight's win was their 30th straight, a new OU record.

Any Sooner fan who has not seen this team play is missing an opportunity to watch a fundamentally sound, exciting team with a chance to take home the title in a year with mostly youngsters on our roster (8 freshmen and 4 sophomores to be exact).

Boomer!!!

I loved it that the Sooners bounced right back from LSU's game-tying, three-run homer and scored three more runs of their own, taking the wind out of the Tiger's sails. That was a huge turnaround.

Without question. It totally gutted LSU. That was championship stuff.

I LOVED the Nat'l Championship team with Rickets and Chamberlain, but attending games this season, and watching these youngsters play has been just as fun. Can't wait for tonight!!! Plenty of tickets were being sold outside the stadium. You can easily play Let's Make a Deal with people needing to leave Oklahoma...

I totally agree, jmizzy! I never thought we'd ever see a women's softball team that even came close to our 2013 NC title team that included Ricketts, Chamberlain, Shults, Casey and Nicole Pendley's big sister Shelby.

But, man, this team is just as exciting for a variety of reasons that go way beyond hitting with power. They do so many things well. Great defense, consistent hitting from top to bottom throughout the lineup (everyone on the team has a .320 or better batting average). They're also sound fundamentally. If Grasso wants someone to lay down a bunt, that's what they'll do. They're darned good at it too.

As crazy as it may sound, I think this group of kids may be more fun to watch.

Everytime I watch them I wonder why they leave Parker in the game in the 7th. She runs out of juice the last inning and about to blow a 3-0 lead in the 7th smh.

Lol like the last 6 games just enough to end the game exciting. Nice!

They've won 31 in a row, so something tells me you're not watching terribly often.

By the way, you can stop shaking your head now.

You can also add that Parker has now won 27 straight games, improving her record to 37-3.

Late inning fatigue or not, you trust your best pitcher to close out tight games.

Great win! One more and we're the national champs again.

The Auburn coach has won two national championships and has brought the Auburn team from nothing to this championship series. He is smart and experienced. He will have Auburn hitters with a good game plan against a pitcher they have seen for a full game and who is clearly tiring. I hope Patty starts Kelsey (quick hook)to give Paige a days rest if she is needed for game three. She wont do that, but I sure wish she would.

Auburn has a very good offense. Parker limited them to four hits. I think you guys are listening to the announcers (who were pretty clueless tonight, I have to say) too much. The only possible OU weakness they can find to discuss is Parker's supposed fatigue so they beat it like a drum, and yet all she does is win.

Doesn't need rest. 24 hours is enough for the body to recoup.

If OU can win its third national championship, the Sooners will move into sole possession of 3rd place on the following list.

NCAA team titles by school
School Championships (Years)
11 .. * UCLA (1982, 1984, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2010)
_ 8 .. Arizona (1991, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2006, 2007)
_ 2 .. Florida (2014, 2015)
_ 2 .. Oklahoma (2000, 2013)
_ 2 .. Arizona State (2008, 2011)
_ 2 .. Texas A&M (1983, 1987)
_ 1 .. Alabama (2012)
_ 1 .. Washington (2009)
_ 1 .. Michigan (2005)
_ 1 .. California (2002)
_ 1 .. Fresno State (1998)
_ 1 .. Cal State Fullerton (1986)

* UCLA also won the 1995 title, but it has since been vacated by the NCAA (scholarship violations).

Observation: The head coach at Auburn (Clint Myers) is a prime example of the SEC striving to upgrade their softball programs. Myers coached Arizona State to national titles in 2008 and 2011, and made the trip to Oklahoma City seven times in eight years. Auburn ponied up the money to hire him away from that West Coast success and move him to the South. The SEC got 4 teams to OKC in 2016. Nevertheless, OU is beating them all.

I've quickly become a fervent fan of Shay Knighten. She's obviously a terrific player, and I love the way she carries herself with such confidence and intensity.

Doesn't Patty's ex-assistant coach HC at Florida? Kind of cool if between the 2 they have won the last 3 and maybe last 4 if we can win tonight or tomorrow. We should have won in 2012 if I remember correctly.

You remember correctly, BOB.

Yes, Tim Walton, is former Sooner on 1994 NC baseball team, I believe. He then later was assistant for Patty on softball team, took head coaching job at Wichita State and then went to Florida and the rest is history! Kenny Gajeski (sp), former Sooner baseball player on 94 team was assistant at Florida and became head coach in Stoolwater this year too.
