Our sorry season means I can't even enjoy the "local" team

The UNM Lobos finished the regular season 27-3, on a 14-game win streak, and with the outright Mountain West title.

They have only one senior but much better chemistry and teamwork than OU has. And I absolutely HATE saying that.

Before anyone freaks out and tells me to switch teams, save your breath/tying fingers. I'll never switch. I just never figured I'd ever see OU finish with a losing season again in my lifetime, especially after starting out in the Top 25.

I certainly have no quick answers to what's wrong with OU this year, and I will always hope for the best (starting with a win this Saturday). But it also doesn't mean that I have to pretend to accept this kind of season - and this is coming from the ultimate "sunshine-pumper" also.

Not sure how you can't enjoy UNM's season, ABQ has to be going bonkers right now. If they can find someone to fill Roman's void (calling Phillip McDonald) they are going to be even better next year with the addition of Gordon.

Hobson is the best player in the country no one talks about.

From another "sunshine pumper" ... I share your pain and suffering.

The worst thing for me is that I have lost confidence in the future of the OU basketball program.

I have no idea which players will return to OU next year, nor can I be certain which players I even want to return to OU.

This is a sorry state of affairs.

I should clarify a little bit. I am enjoying seeing them do well, especially as a UNM employee. But I'm just not enjoying college basketball much at all because of OU (other than the occasional good home win and the one at Utah).

I'm also a big fan of both OU teams, so it also pains me to admit that the women's team has been the only one that's usually fun to watch lately. And I'm also well-aware of how the fan base here in Albuquerque fractured some - because of the "women's first" UNM fans who thought it necessary ( ) in the late 90's to trash their own men's team. I'm still pulling for our men's team of course; I'm just not very confident in them lately.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if the big brass at Indiana runs out of patience with Tom Crean. They'll throw everything not tied down at Alford to bring him home if he keeps UNM rocking like this.
